I hate the dentist

Jun 05, 2006 21:11

Why is it that no matter how old I get I still need to learn certain lessons? I mean, I actually do like my dentist. He's a really nice guy. But I hate going to the dentist. Which means I put it off unnecessarily and for no good reason, since I'm well covered under my health plan. Which also meant today that I found out that I have an ( Read more... )

Good luck with the dental issues. I tend to be bad about putting that off as well.

Just curious - got any thoughts on The Sopranos?

I think that the problem was that Chase decided to use these twelve episodes to set up the next eight, rather than construct two fairly self-contained seasons. As a result, most of the plotlines had no payoff.

I would have liked the arc about Vito if they had ended it with the episode where he first went to Surprisingly Gay New Hampshire. Even though I didn't think much of him as a character, I thought that would have been an amusing and unexpected outcome. Instead, he wound up exactly like Richie. And Ralphie. And the other Tony. And Jackie Jr.

I'm curious about Junior and Bobby, who I have suspected for a while might have conspired in Tony's shooting, but I'm not sure if that is going anywhere or not. It looks like things are not going to end well for Christopher, though.

At any rate, I hope next season can tie everything together. Taken on its own, the season was definitely disappointing.

Aside from my other "Whedon" issues, it's similar to how Joss screwed up Season 7 of BTVS by spending his time trying to set up a spin-off. I'm surprised, though, that Chase elected to use that kind of narrative - if only because although he clearly sets things in motion multiple seasons before they happen, he's usually more self contained within a season. As I said, the only really self-contained storyline was Vito.

I would have liked the arc about Vito if they had ended it with the episode where he first went to Surprisingly Gay New Hampshire. It would have been good from the point of view of having less Vito and therefore (presumably) more focus on other characters, but at the end of the day Chase failed to make me feel anything (including pity) for the character just by making him gay. I don't (as should be obvious) ( ... )

Who are you again??? Oh yea, I seem to remember you from somewhere...

WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN?! Sorry, I'm a wee bit emotional these days. We're still pulling the house together, people are delivering stuff right and left, and tomorrow we're off to get the marriage license. I'll be glad when July 26th gets here, 'cause then the hard part will be over.

I hear you about the dentist, it's not my favorite place either, but at least I don't dread it. In fact, I need to make an appointment myself.

I've been around, just without much to say. Life is pretty boring. :)

But WOW! It sounds like your life is super interesting! I'm sorry, because in addition to not posting I haven't been keeping up at all with my friends' posts, so I'm completely in the dark as to what's going on with all of you. I know I congratulated you on the engagement, but I think that's the last time I was around. But it sounds like things are going really well, and the wedding is around the corner! How exciting for you - hopefully you'll have some pictures for us!

Have you noticed a pattern with Strangers and dentists yet?

Like I was saying to Platy, we should start a club. LOL

I have a newly developed love for my dentist caused by the absolutely lovely cessation of drysocket pain. That was awesome. Which is fortunate, since I'm fairly certain I'm due for a root canal soon myself.

In other news, how the heck are ya? Dentist trips aside, I mean. :)

I just went back and checked out your LJ - you have my very belated sympathies. Sorry - as I mentioned to LL above, I have been quite negligent as far as keeping up with my friends' posts.

I'm fine - really. Just bored, I think. And I know that it's up to me to pick myself out of the rut and not be bored, but I'm feeling too lazy to do that. Eventually, I will. But for the most part, things are fine, work is fine and once I get this root canal done with next week, I think things will be even better.

Now that I think about it, there's no way of really knowing how long this infection has been festering - it may have been present for months now. So it's possible that my malaise of late actually has a physiological source, and once I'm "cured" I'll be more motivated to go out and do things!

She's aliiiiive!

My big news: I'm training to be a volunteer at the Bronx Zoo, and I'm very excited. :-)

Yes, very much alive. At least, I think so. Most days. :)

The Bronx Zoo thing IS very exciting. I haven't taken a trip to the Metro Toronto Zoo in ages, but I've been meaning to go. Perhaps you will inspire me. Although a trip is as much as I can handle - I'm not quite sure what volunteering at a zoo entails, but I'm far too scared of animals to do anything that involves being closer to them without, you know, a fence or glass window in the way. Will you be involved with the animals themselves, or volunteering in a more administrative capacity?

Not to worry. The volunteers are part of the Education Department and no animal handling is involved or allowed. We work with the public, so there's lots of talking about animals but no touching of them. (I would love it if it were involved, actually.)

I don't think I've ever been to the Toronto Zoo, despite all the trips I used to take up there.

So... Except for the dentist, what have you been up to?

Honestly, not that much. Which is part of the reason I haven't posted - not much to say. Busy at work, and that's going well, but socially - very non-eventful.

Trust me, I feel your pain. Check my entries from back a month or two ago, where I was amking weekly visits to the man.

I'm like you, love my dentist, hate going there. Hope your infection clears up and the root canal is quick and painless!

Thanks! Of course, now I'm starting to feel really badly - as I've mentioned above, not only have I not posted but I also haven't been reading anyone else for a long while, so I haven't been around to express support or sympathy for my friends' problems. Bad, bad Platypus. So sorry!

LOL, no worries, all I did was whinge about my needle fear anyway. LOL

Hopefully any treatment will be nice and quick though. Mine, being typical me took forever. LOL

Hopefully it'll be worth it when it's over though! I know now mine is done, (aside from a little pressure issue) it's great. So nice to be able to eat sweet food without the huge amount of pain that used to follow. LOL

There are pleanty of us that've seemed to go through the same thing over the last 6 months though, so you're in good company!

We should start a club... ;)

Needles are a huge thing for me. My dentist knows, and he's good about the fact that I practically have an anxiety attack every time I need a needle. But (nice guy that he is) he keeps trying to "understand" the situation so he can help me get over it, and in the meantime? I'm just, like, dude? I don't want to focus on getting over it right now - I just want to get it over with, if you know what I mean. ;)
