In your opinion, why has participation in service organizations fallen? And do you think they'll disappear over the next decade or two?

I think the younger generations are too busy -- or think they are. Work + family commitments = not much time / too tired to volunteer. But I'm predicting a slight shift in the next decade. The kids on the way up today want to do things that have an immediate impact, and they want to participate directly, not just give ten bucks to a cause and never know how it all worked out. Service organizations like these do a lot of good in their home communities, and I think that will appeal to people all over again.
