After all of this statement of interest and research proposal crap, i just want to say that i am fundamentally fascinated by how much language affects the way we perceive every little detail in our lives, it's almost like we're controlled by language rather than the other way around ( Read more... )

You know, grad school tuition isn't as scary expensive as I thought it would be, so it's not that bad if funding falls through.

In the language or thought "Which came first?" debate, I am a language-first person. You can't articulate thought without a language. So language both frees and constrains us.

yeah, i wasn't going to apply for scholarships in the first place, but i was convinced after going to some info sessions

unfortunately, some of the stuff they told us at the info session wasn't wasn't the same as what the profs's perspective, etc. and i ran into some issues

i think we can have thoughts without language, but i think language opens up different perspectives
