language and human inter"action"

After all of this statement of interest and research proposal crap, i just want to say that i am fundamentally fascinated by how much language affects the way we perceive every little detail in our lives, it's almost like we're controlled by language rather than the other way around.

i remember the first time i was completely captivated by this knowledge, sitting in Professor Lara Varpio's class, listening to her telling us about this swedish word that has no such translation in english and how english speakers dont have that sort of togetherness attitude swedish people have for this very reason.

and then i reflected on all the ideas chinese people have that had no word in english and how so many immigrants i know have lamented on these facts and then I realized that perhaps these ideas won't be conceptualized for a very long time because the immigrants don't have enough power to make this happen...

this is why i am in the field that i am in.

it's never the form but the content

and if i dont get funding for whatever reason, that's ok, because i think i have finally figured out why i chose to be here...

i want to remember this and i dont want to lose sight of this again.
