Sort meh!

  • What sort of profession in the wizarding world would you choose and why?

Y'know, I'm not sure how many "professions" there are besides the usual choices (Auror or teacher) and they seem either boring or stressful. I think I would probably open a shop with my best friend a la Fred and George. Except it wouldn't be a joke shop, it'd be a book shop. But not your boring old Flourish and Blotts -- our book shop would sell "exotic" stuff like muggle comic books! And on the second floor, my friend would run a joint coffee shop and restaruant (since she's a great cook). We'll make a million Galleons! But seriously, even though travel and all that exciting stuff appeals to me, I think at the end of the day I'd be the happiest somewhere I could curl up and read mountains of books on every subject like the geek I am. I've seriously spent weekends just basking in literary bliss at the public library. There's so many interesting things in this world, I'd never be able to learn enough.

  • If you could teach one class at Hogwarts, what would it be and why?

Teaching isn't my cup of tea, but if I had to choose a magical subject it would probably be charms. It seems like a very challenging and useful type of magic. You can apply it to just about any situation, and it is a skill that you would most certainly need to use for other classes. Plus being able to make things appear out of thin air rules! It would certainly be practical in a pinch. If I worked at Hogwarts I'd probably walk around conjuring up random objects all day just for kicks.

  • This year, The TriWizard Tournament is being held once again and you're of age. Do you put your name in the Goblet? Why or why not?

Even though my athletic abilities are decent, I'm more of a shy nerd than the school jock. I don't like being the center of attention and wouldn't enter for the "eternal glory". Maybe I would just to prove to myself that I can do it, but not having any high expectations to be chosen. If by some wild chance I did end up being a Hogwarts Champion, I would be very honored and do my best.

I can have a very fierce competitive streak when I want to. Although not to the point of being a blatant cheater, of course. (Loopholes are ok, but breaking the rules is not. :P) Winning is lots of fun, but it isn't *everything*. If you can't achieve success by your own merits, are you really even a winner in the first place? Nah. You'd be a fake. Cheating isn't the most reliable method to fall back on anyway, and sooner or later everyone will find out you're just another Gilderoy Lockhart. ;)

  • If you could choose your animagus form, what would it be and why?

Hmmm, good one. A pegasus! That way I can fly AND be a pretty, pretty pony! Haha. But seriously, if I had to choose a real animal, I think maybe I'd be a falcon. They're cleverer than eagles and less cliche than owls. Falcons are shrewd and noble creatures in their own right. Plus, it's good to have an animal form that you can use in an emergency. I wouldn't have to worry about any natural enemies, and having the ability to fly would keep me out of danger easily. Plus the great eyesight and ability to fly both day and night is a bonus.

  • What HP character do you identify with most and why?

I identify with certain traits from many different characters, but I guess the one person I come closest to relating with is Tonks. I'm not exactly as "punk rock chic" as she is, but we both have the same character of being young and somewhat innocent in spite of heavy responsibilities. I'm more or less in her age bracket (young adult in their 20's) and I am 5 years senior to the second oldest of my siblings, so I'm constantly playing the role of "cool big sister" the way she does with Hermione and Ginny. She's a bit more outgoing than I am, but I like to make people laugh doing dumb stuff. And I'm clumsy. I trip over myself all the time.

On top of that, even our love lives are similar. I went through a brief period of unrequited-love-related depression not unlike hers in HBP. Plus Remus Lupin is one of my favorite characters. I guess Tonks and I have the same taste in men. Quiet intellectuals are indeed appealing. :)

  • What would you see if you looked into the Mirror of Erised?

Myself swimming in a pile of money. Ok, seriously -- I would see myself being happy and successful with a great career. Or maybe I'd see myself happily married with a family. I don't really know what my deepest desire is. Sure, I want more out of life, but I like to take things one day at a time.

  • If you won a million dollars, how would you spend it?

First off, I'd do some mundane things like paying off bills, getting a new house/car for myself and my family, paying off college tuition, etc. I'd donate at least 10% of it to the poor or to miscellaneous charities. I'd try to invest some of it so as not to squander my resources (a million dollars doesn't go as far as it did back in Dr. Evil's day). I'd definitely use some of it to educate myself, take some professional art, music, or language lessons. Just for fun.

  • What was your ideal job as a kid? Has that changed? What is your ideal job now?

I used to be one of those kids who changed career aspirations every week. First I wanted to be a vet. Then an astronaut. Then a marine biologist. Then a nuclear physicist. Then an Olympic swimmer. I'm not entirely sure how I ended up a graphic designer. I've been thinking about getting into film.

  • If you were able to invent one spell, potion, or charm, what would it do, what would you use it for or how would you use it, and what would you call it?

I would invent a potion that gives you self-confidence. It won't brainwash you or anything, but rather it will push the negative things out of your mind and help you focus on your positive traits. If you aren't preoccupied with your insecurities, there won't be anything holding you back. Therefore, you can be your true self, and be happy! As for what I would name it, I dunno... maybe I'd package it as an energy drink and call it "Liquid Awesome".

  • If you were to face a boggart, what would it turn into? And what does it turn into when you throw the counter-spell, Riddikulus?

Hmmm, I don't think I know what my greatest fear is, either. Probably losing someone I love in some horrible manner (like Mrs.Weasley's boggart). My Riddikulus spell would probably turn into... Conan O' Brien. XD

  • What do you look for in a friend?

I like people who are witty and dry, but also silly and enthusiastic. Lively, intelligent conversationalists who like to have deep, reflective talks about whatever interest me (although I tend to avoid debate junkies, I hate arguing). I like people who are talkative, because I am more of a listener and appreciate not having to come up with akward small talk. I soak up my surroundings like a spounge, so I do better when I have upbeat, positive people around me. My pals don't need to have a lot in common with me -- in fact, I like being exposed to new things. But basically, all you need to be a friend of mine is kindness and loyalty. I'll be there for you, you be there for me. :)

  • What trait most annoys you about other people?

I hate psuedo-intellectuals. You know what I mean... the ones who think they have ALL the answers and their opinions on any subject under the sun are completely and irrefutably infallible regardless of any lack of credentials. *snort* They bully their way into conversations or debates just to give a laughably arrogant opinion that nobody asked for. On top of that, they will not hesitate to act like a snottly little prick towards anyone who DARES to disagree with them, no matter how politely. They have no humility or intellectual honesty whatsoever, and are far too deluded to understand how narrow-minded and desperately NOT smart they are.

  • What do you think are your top five abilities or qualities?

My intelligence is well above average, and I manage to get high grades without too much effort.

I'm highly independent and do well on my own. I've been teased and abused by a lot of people in my life, so I've spent a lot of time withdrawn.. Because of that, I know myself well and have come to terms with a lot of issues that scare most people. I'm not afraid of facing my weaknesses and flaws, and I don't need others to validate my worth. I've some to realize how far those people are behind me.

I'm compassionate, tolerant, enjoy helping others, and believe in living a good life. I have no irrational prejudices against any group of people, and it's not difficult for me to agree to disagree. I'm idealistic and even though other humans tend to dissappoint me often, I've managed to avoid becoming a misanthropist. I keep a good balance of optimism and realism, without being either too naive or too cynical.

I have been blessed with artistic and creative abilities. I know I could be capable of much more if I would simply put some more effort into sharpening my skills, but hey -- at least the raw talent is there. :P

I like to be organized and clean (I work better that way).

  • What do you think are your top five weaknesses or worst qualities?

I am strongly uncomfortable with criticism and can get defensive really quickly. Constructive criticism I can deal with, but I have a huge chip on my shoulder when it comes to nitpickers. I wish I was one of those people who was less sensitive and didn't take things personally.

When angry or annoyed, I can be cold and bitingly sarcastic. Often my rudeness goes too far, and I say something stupid which I regret later.

I'm too shy and quiet. I wish I could be one of those people who could make friends with just about anybody, but I doubt that will ever happen. What's worse is that most people misinterperet my silence as snobbery, which makes them even less inclined to get to know me.

I'm an introvert who "thinks too much" and tends to overanalyze a situation. While this isn't always a bad thing, it can cause me unnecessary stress.

I'm a people-pleaser and usually neglect my own feelings (or even well-being) to "keep the peace". Sometimes that makes me mature, and sometimes it makes me a doormat. Usually the latter.

  • Define in your own words the following key traits:
    • Courage: Courage is action. Doing the right thing regardless of whether it's convenient or not. Not letting the fear of adveristy, failure, or disapproval prevent you from doing something that needs to be done. A lack of fear has nothing to do with being courageous -- rather, it is how you choose to act upon a situation. Sometimes it can cross the line into recklessness, yes, but if we all hid under a rock for the rest of our lives, we'd never grow. Either as individuals or as a society.
    • Loyalty: Being loyal is about honesty. You'll never betray your companion's trust. If you are loyal to someone, you will respect them enough to always think of how your actions will affect them. You will also put them first in your mind, above others who you do not have that type of solidarity with. It's an essential quality to have for a team to work together and meet common goals. Loyalty is the litmus test of a strong, healthy relationship (either platonic or romantic). It must be mutual, however, or else you may risk being taken advantage of.
    • Intelligence: Being "intelligent" is having strong intellectual/cognitive capabilities that can span many disciplines, be they logical or creative, concrete or abstract. On a deeper level, intelligence is about the pursuit of truth and understanding how it works. Society would be nowhere today if people didn't pay attention to the world around us and attempt experiments to learn more about it (i.e. the concept of science). Intelligence is not about memorizing facts in a B.F. Skinner-esque classroom environment. You have to be able to solve real problems with it, and rarely are the answers to these problems simple and straightforward.
    • Ambition: Ambition in and of itself is not a bad thing. Anyone can daydream, but very few people take the initiative to plan things out and work hard for what they want. I think that is an admirable trait. If people took no risks, or never tried to push their way to the top, this world would not be successful. However, using ambition as an excuse to step all over people and just be plain greedy and unethical is totally wrong. Ambition without morals usually leads to downfall.
A person should be careful not to let power get to their heads.
