- What sort of profession in the wizarding world would you choose and why?
I'd like to do something mentally challenging, but not physically dangerous. Studying ancient spells, perhaps. I like the idea of taking one simple word and pulling it apart to see why it does what it does, and why it was invented. You could learn plenty about history that way, not to mention building new spells off the old ones. My only hesitation is that I'm not sure I could work by myself quite as much as this requires. I generally need a big motivation to work my way all the way through anything, and I think that job would be very self-motivated.
- If you could teach one class at Hogwarts, what would it be and why?
I like the idea of charms, simple and useful. They seem quick and neat and direct, sort of clever. I always have like clever things. Charms may require a lot of mental work, but the actual visual result looks easy. Say a word, twist your hand a certain way and something happens. Clean and neat. No messy potions, or failing to banish the boggart the first time.
- This year, The TriWizard Tournament is being held once again and you're of age. Do you put your name in the Goblet? Why or why not?
No. I don't believe in doing something that dangerous for very little reason, and I don't need to prove anything to myself. The competition involves a lot of luck, which I am not comfortable with. The money reward would be handy, but I'm comfortable with what I've got (It's easy for me to say). The tests are often as much physical skill as mental, which would pretty much put me out of the running to begin with.
- If you could choose your animagus form, what would it be and why?
I'd like to be a crow, or a raven since that sounds ever so much more elegant. They are smarter then most animals, which I always want. They can fly, which I think would be fantastic. Imagine being able to go so many places with no trouble, and see so many things. Crows are also sleek and pretty and black, always a bonus.
- What HP character do you identify with most and why?
I've always been fond of Ginny Weasley. Smart, clever, bad temper. I think she's the kind of person to go out and get what she wants, which I admire. I also imagine that after the whole Chamber of Secrets incident many characters would be full of angst and woe, which I have no patience for. Bad character trait of mine. I tend to make fun of my friend's angsty blogs, which is terrible. Anyway, I respect Ginny for getting up and moving on with her life.
- What would you see if you looked into the Mirror of Erised?
I think I'd see myself as elegant and witty. And very well-read. Master of cocktail conversation and scathing, subtle insults. Sought out for brilliant conversation. A more beautiful, less bitter and ever clever version of Snape. And I'd look a little more normal raising my eyebrows. Have I mentioned I'm a bit vain?
- If you won a million dollars, how would you spend it?
Funny. I was asked this questions in fifth grade for math class. We had to make posters. I said I'd open a pomegranate and starfruit farm in Brazil. I charted myself as doublng my profit in two years. Now, I think I'd take enough of it to pay off my college, donate half to medical research and use the rest to start up a small community theater where I could do plays no one would ever come to because I didn't need the profit. Do you think that would end up exceeding 1 million dollars?
- What was your ideal job as a kid? Has that changed? What is your ideal job now?
When I was in sixth grade, I was going to be a Broadway actor. In seventh grade I realized I can neither dance nor sing nor act. Now I fully plan on being a director. Truth be told, I want to be a Broadway director, but I doubt I'll ever take the risk. If figure if I work at a small community theater I can do most of the shows I want to, and have enough money to stay alive besides. I think a play can have such power, much more then a book or a movie or anything else. I adore Tennessee Williams and Arthur Miller and Tom Stoppard.
- If you were able to invent one spell, potion, or charm, what would it do, what would you use it for or how would you use it, and what would you call it?
I most want somebody to develop a cure for brest cancer. My aunt has it, she has three small children, and its just devastating. I'm not sure which disease kills the most people, but I'm sure its up there. Chemo is so terribly painful. And presumably based off that cure we could work on ones for other related disease. I don't particularly care what its called. We can just make it the Robin potion, so I go down in history as having done SOMETHING.
- If you were to face a boggart, what would it turn into? And what does it turn into when you throw the counter-spell, Riddikulus?
Huh. I think I would see myself doing nothing. Just sitting there. Not thinking, not making the world a better place, not even entertaining myself. That vacant thing you see in people who are doing nothing they want to. I guess the counter-spell would make me get up and start bouncing off walls again. Reading. Talking. Doing something
- What do you look for in a friend?
I look for loyalty first of all. It's hypocritical, since I haven't always been the most loyal person. That makes me feel terrible, but it's a fact of life. I also need humor, and a minimum of angst. I've never been good at comforting people, and it's just not fun being with someone unhappy all the time. Of course I won't abandon a friend going through a crisis, I just don't tend to make friends with people who are sad all the time. Of course, it all shouldn't be work to talk to someone. When I'm with my two best friends, we NEVER shut up.
- What trait most annoys you about other people?
As I've mentioned before, Angsty!Teenager syndrome is something I can't stand, especially when it's because their upper middle class families didn't get them what they want for christmas. I can't live with someone who isn't fairly Anything Goes either. Certainly no one homophobic or racist.
- What do you think are your top five abilities or qualities?
Friendly- I talk to everybody. Sometimes to the point of annoyance, but I don't believe in making fun of people or ignoring them.
Smart- I pride myself on this. I think I am quite quick, and I read constantly and am rather good at math.
Honest- I try never to lie, even harmless lies.
Hard working- When I want something I'll bang my head against a brick wall if that's what it takes to get it. I am not afraid of work if its getting me somewhere.
Thoughtful- I believe in thinking before you speak, and I almost always do that. I rarely accidentally hurt people.
- What do you think are your top five weaknesses or worst qualities?
Cynicism- I hate those slogans about landing among stars and such. I know rather a lot of people who believe them, and I try not to be too sarcastic or anything, but sometimes it slips out.
Uncaring- sometimes it feels like I'm missing some basic human traits. I am rarely devastated over anything important, including the loss of a pet and such.
Pride- I am patronizing to people I believe are smarter then me, and occasionally unwilling to take their opinions into consideration even when I should.
Critical- I tend to make instant judgments, which are sometimes wrong. I hold grudges on random people, which they rarely know about.
Harsh- I occasionally cross the line in my jokes at the expense of other people. I have not patience for stupidity and it shows.
