If you could change one thing about the world, what would it be?
I would like to change all the conformity in the world. So many people seem to find it necessary to copy off the person next to them. I would really love to see one day where everyone was just themselves--how they would be if there was no society holding back. Too many people are too afraid of standing out and I think that's a rather stupid fear to have. It would be incredible if people stopped being afraid and started being themselves.
What makes a person respectable?
I really respect people who believe in themselves and are strong enough to stand up for their own beliefs. If they're not afraid to have their own opinions instead of mirroring everyone elses, they're very respectable in my eyes. Also, a respectable person should be somewhat ambitious, have done something (or is doing something) with their lives, have pride in it.
What do you look for in a friend?
I look for someone with a unique personality who will always there for me. Someone who will be trusted to keep a secret if I tell them one, not turn around and stab me in the back. Someone who I can share good memories with. My friends should have personalities that agree with mine and be around for me should anything happen.
What are your hobbies?
I love to read whenever I get the chance. Sadly, school takes up most of the reading for pleasure time so now I mostly read well-known books because it makes me feel accomplished. :) I play the piano (and have for 8 years) and love that too. In fact, just listening to music (alternative/punk rock) is a hobby of mine. Other than that, I always end up spending way too much time in PhotoShop making icons than I should.
Have or would you give time and money to a charity?
Yes, I love that good feeling you get after you do something that you know will help someone. I've done several walks for things like AIDs, Cystic Fibrosis (sp?), breast cancer... I also volunteer at a hospice, though I'm not sure if that's relevant.
What is the one thing you would most like to accomplish?
As of now, I'd really like to just finish applying to colleges and be accepted at a good one (that might count as two :/). Going to a very prestigious college would just be a dream come true simply because what happens to me after high school will probably impact my future a great deal and this is a big rite of passage for me.
Who is your role model?
It's always really hard for me to pick just one person as my role model but if I had to I would probably say my mom because, to me, she is one of the smartest people I know and she does so much for everyone in the family. I don't think I would be able to do it all if I were in her place. She's also just a cool person; I love having a close relationship with her. :)
What trait most annoys you about other people?
I utterly despise hypocrisy in other people. I know I'm probably guilty of it at one point in my life but it really just bothers me when people tell me there's something I shouldn't do and then they go right ahead and do it themselves.
What do you want to do for a living?
Go into neuroscience and possibly be a neurosurgeon. I'm fascinated with anything that has to do with the brain and the challenge of doing something like surgery attracts me.
If your friend was attacked (by a person, animal, or (in the magic world) beast), what would you do?
I would probably jump right in to try and help her. Knowing me, I would probably forget about calling for help and be too preoccupied with what is happening. I tend to lose my rationality in the spur of the moment and forget about getting hurt.
Would you ever use an Unforgivable Curse for any reason?
Yes. The only one I can imagine using would be the Imperius Curse in order to help someone (or a group of people). I can't think of any situation in which I would have to Crucio or Avada Kedavra anyone because the circumstances would be horrible. Even if I did place either of those two curses on anyone (not likely), I would so guilty later on.
What do you think are your top five abilities or qualities?
My intelligence. I always tend to grasp a concept faster during classes. I find it very simple to understand things in math, science and literature in particular. I also tend to remember things very well without too much effort. I think many of friends work much, much harder than I ever do, but I'm able to reach the same level of understanding with much less work.
My ambition. I don't like to settle for average; I like to push myself to do better and better. I know it sounds crazy, but I'd love to do something extraordinary with my life. I'd hate to sit back and let others tell me that they're better when I know I could be competing with them.
My independence/individuality. I'd hate to just be part of the crowd. I want to stand out someone. I always try to do what I think is best for me, not what others think is best for me because I know who I am better than all of them. My own beliefs and values are very important to me even though I'm always open to new ideas. I also prefer to work alone and depend on myself, as opposed to being dependent on someone else.
My creativity. I love my imagination... this probably explains why I love to read so much. I also love exploring new ideas, places, etc because it allows me to think up new conceptions of my own. Making graphics is one of my more recent outlets for creativity. I'm also looking into writing at the moment.
My loyalty. I would never turn against someone who I consider a friend. I would literally take a secret to the grave if it was what my friend wanted. I'll always be behind my friends and family.
What do you think are your top five weaknesses or worst qualities?
I'm exceptionally proud and that sometimes gets in the way of my relationships with people. It's hard for me to admit to being wrong and to apologize. It also affects me much more when I feel insulted as I find it much harder to forgive people. I'm absolutely terrified of failure because of my pride.
I can be very cynical of people and situations. I tend to be very pessimestic. I'd set myself up for the worst in order to avoid being caught off guard and harmed in any way. This means that I'm extremely distrustful of people and I'm slow to open up. This is a quality which a some people have actually pointed out to me so I guess it's quite obvious.
I'm sometimes a perfectionist to a degree that it's almost absurd. Sometimes I'll literally rewrite papers because I'm unsatisfied with my handwriting or I'll redo something multiple times to ensure that it's perfect. I'm always a little bit nervous when it comes to letting other people do things for me because of my fear of it not being done 'right.'
I'm very stubborn. If I have my mind set, it's sometimes very difficult to move me. I hate when people try to coerce me into doing something because I feel like I have to make that decision myself. The more someone pushes me to do something, the more I'll put it off just because I hate to be ordered around.
I'm shy. I never blurt out what I'm thinking. I usually think about what I'm going to say for awhile before saying it so I choose my words carefully. This also means that I would definitely lose to a rapid verbal debate.
Define in your own words the following key traits:
Courage: Courage is having the mindset to do something that you feel is right even though obstacles (like people and situations) may get in your way and try to stop you. It means that you will keep going even if everyone and everything is against you.
Loyalty: Backing up and standing up for someone you care about despite the odds. It means always being there for someone when they need you and never putting them aside just because someone better has come along.
Intelligence: Being able to understand new ideas and concepts quickly and actually using this ability to its full capacity. Making wise decisions is an important part of being intelligent.
Ambition: Persisting and pushing yourself forward until you achievement a usually hard-to-achieve goal. Ambition means always setting yourself up for the next best thing and never settling for what you already have.
Name: Tina
Age: 17
What house do you think DOESN'T fit you? Probably Hufflepuff because I don't think I'm very hardworking at all. In fact, I'm rather lazy and I have a nasty habit of procrastinating.
Where did you find out about us? I was searching Harry Potter on LJ interests (in a spurt of GOF excitement) and came across the community.
