Top 100 Films of the Aughts

Dec 31, 2009 18:56

I spent a few hours a few weeks ago composing my top 100 favorite movies of the decade.  Just in case anybody is curious, I'll post the list here.  Like my 2009 lists, I'm not going to waste my time explaining my thought process or reasoning behind each individual movie's position on the list unless somebody specifically asks me in the comment ( Read more... )

-Ahh, I'm so happy that Love Actually just made it! You know how crazy I am about that one. Also hell yes to The Aviator and Catch Me if You Can - looks like I'm not the only Leonardo DiCaprio fan in this couple! ;) Speaking of which, did you know that I have not seen Gangs of New York? Because I have not. Though okay, there are actually a bunch of movies on this list that I've wanted to see but did not yet get a chance to.

-Wait, if Series 7 is good enough to be on the Top 100 of the Decade, how come you didn't want to show it to me when I asked to see it that one time?

-In general, I love a *lot* of the movies you listed, but I haven't seen the great majority of your top ten (have only seen Moon and Children of Men).

-Why is The School of Rock not on this list???!!!! :P Totally the best Jack Black movie of the decade.

-I'm impressed with your list-making ability. :) I've still not been able to come with a top five list for the decade to answer Omar's question, hahaha.

This list was very difficult to make, I spent many hours on it and revised it countless times. I feel bad for not including anything from Pixar, as they are important and good... but overall I have a better feeling from all the other movies on this list.

- DiCaprio, much like Clooney, has the tact to say "no" to bad movies no matter how much money they are offering. Therefor, they are able to pick and choose top quality movies to get involved with. Though I must admit, he's never been the best part of any of the movies I have on the list. Not that he's bad in any of them, but Cate Blanchett, Christopher Walken/Amy Adams, and Daniel Day Lewis are the best parts in those named movies.

- Series 7 is great, I had just watched it though, when you wanted to see it. I will show it to you some time, maybe in a few months. I wouldn't own it if I didn't like it!

- School of Rock wouldn't make my top 150 list. Sorry. Maybe my top 200. I did enjoy it.

Capturing the Friedmans and Role Models (among a few others) were on the list at one point or another, but they fell off it as I retooled and reassessed my movie loving priorities. American Psycho was good, but not on my top 100.

However, you are correct in that I forgot Let the Right One In... and I am a shamed creature for it. The film wasn't on the list of "Every movie to ever get even the smallest release in America" list that I read.

I will edit this, but without moving all the numbers because Let The Right One In will be so fucking high.

Oh, and I have 3 Grave Disappointments on yours.

- Perfume
- Mullholland Drive
- Me You and Everyone We Know

Otherwise, that's a pretty solid list and I am so glad Little Children is number one on it. That movie is incredible. I just bought it for 2 dollars on Half.com.
