Top 100 Films of the Aughts

Dec 31, 2009 18:56

I spent a few hours a few weeks ago composing my top 100 favorite movies of the decade.  Just in case anybody is curious, I'll post the list here.  Like my 2009 lists, I'm not going to waste my time explaining my thought process or reasoning behind each individual movie's position on the list unless somebody specifically asks me in the comment section.  Just know that my number one movie is the best directed and edited film I have ever seen, in any decade.  And the premise (at the time) was pretty much the most original thing to happen to movies in a long fucking time.

Also note, that unlike my favorite lists, I weighed the importance of the movie to the decade when deciding my top 100.  Thus, you may see some strange choice like District 9 being on the list despite it not cracking my top 10 of 2009.  However, no matter how important the film is, if it isn't really all that good than it isn't on the list; ie, the lack of Avatar.  If there are any other questions about the ordering or why I deemed something important, again... just leave a comment.

I find it interesting that Dramas or Character Driven Pieces take up about 70% of the list.  Though there is a fair amount of Science Fiction and Horror as well.  Fantasy and straight up action movies take the biggest hit.  Pretty much Kill Bill and Crouching Tiger could be the only films CONFUSED for action movies, and Fellowship is the only real fantasy.
