Aww, poor pup. Covering the foot when she goes outside sounds like a good idea to me...but yes, check with the vet!

I'm glad you're feeling better now, poor thing, and that you got to spend some quality time with the pup and the New Yorker while recovering.

Thank you. It occurred to me after the fact that I did a fair number of unusual things recently. Going to the block party was one (hell, going to any party is one!), and the fact that I didn't dress warmly enough is probably a factor in my illness.
Two, standing up in church Sunday and saying what I did. I thought about it a lot the day before and after. I'm glad I did it, but it was stressful, for me at least.
Stress, even if it's cause by doing something fun or good, hits me in the immune system. I sucked down a lot of Emergen-C yesterday.
And yes, both the New Yorker and my dog are wonderful companions. BTW, the spot on her foot where it looked like it was opening up/breaking has formed a scab. I find that a relief, as when I lost Biggs to cancer, the wound NEVER scabbed over. It was awful; we had drainage everywhere, but I did everything I could to keep him comfortable, and I still feel proud of my "momming" skilz!

Stress will definitely take its toll - I think that's why I've come down with something, meself. Hooray for EmergenC!

Phew, scabbing is a good sign!
