I love them. I made a table for the phone to match, but it didn't hold up well. Plus a valance for the window, but it was too close to the stove - grease city - and then the window - dust and pet hair stuck to the grease. Not attractive.
You are so funny. They are cookbooks. I read somewhere recently that they are obsolete, but I disagree. I find a cookbook has a "voice", in that the recipes selected have a commonality that expresses a lot. I go to certain cookbooks for simple things, others for over-the-top fabulous stuff, still others for something in between. They also came in handy when I needed weight to keep the wall base in place while the adhesive dried. Try doing that with epicurious.com!
I was never lucky with the cookbooks we had here in that period when I was desperate to compensate for not having inherited my mother's cooking talent. The only time when I was happy cooking was when I was student in Sofia and made my own crazy experiments with whatever products were available in that time of poverty because I was the only one who would eat the damn thing anyway. My roommates were duly terrified. :)
Thank you! This house is very open: fairly little between one space and the next, except for the bedrooms, of course. I love how it works for us. I'm sitting writing this in the dining/sitting room while Ray watches Dexter in the living room. He's got headphones on, but still, we're close to each other. :)
But of course. It's one of a pair which were attached to a thingy one is supposed to hang over a doorknob or suchlike, for kitty to play with by him or herself. Nothing doing, so I liberated it and attached it to the low-tech kitty fishing pole we use. Bingo!
