I am finding that I may have been entirely honest.

I have claimed that I am functioning optimally away from the Enterprise. Over the last three nights I have been having strange dreams that lead me to the conclusion that the absence of my crew is beginning to affect the productivity of my net. I would like permission to run an investigatory ( Read more... )

This isn't a military ship, man. You don't have to ask permission for anything short of blowing up the airlocks.

Are you the only one left now from the Enterprise V? Y'know, nowhere in your show did they mention that loneliness makes an android malfunction. Missing folks from home ... hah. All you can do is hope that someday you'll get to see them again.

I am merely respecting a chain of command. It is all that I have ever known to do.

There have been no others from the E aboard this ship. It has only been myself, and I am not necessarily malfunctioning as my processes are being obstructed by unnecessary programs dedicated to individuals that are no longer present. It is affecting me physically in ways that I am not familiar with, and while I normally appreciate self discovery if I am going to ascertain a method of escape I can not have my performance hampered.

Does Kirk even know you?

Look, loneliness is a human emotion. We all experience it when we miss people that we've lost. It's part of what comes with that emotion chip of yours. You installed that thing to feel more human, right? This is part of it.

He has spoken with me since I came aboard, and I have been informed that he is the senior officer. He would also be my senior officer as a member of Starfleet, whether he was acquainted with me or not.

I suppose you are correct. I simply did not anticipate it being so uncomfortable. I will take that into consideration.

I believe a scan would be more than appropriate.

[And after a pause] I find myself curious about this thalaron radiation.

Thalaron radiation causes complete necrosis of living cells. Research into it was banned by the Federation. [Oh, perhaps he should not bring up Romulans. Would Kirk have mentioned them? How much do they know about Romulans... Artful evasion go!]

An enemy agent was using a thalaron generator to enact mass assassination.

I assume it isn't discovered until after my time. [But she's still totally intrigued. Damn science.]

If you require help controlling your emotions, I will try to assist you.

It was considered theoretical until my time, so I would presume that there was no significant research or development ongoing during your time.

I believe I have made significant progress in expressing them. Control is something that I should also explore more in depth. That would be preferable to deactivating my chip and ability to process them entirely.

You can dream?

[Curious Kara is curious. And maybe slightly disturbed because she doesn't really get why androids need to dream.]

I dream almost every time I sleep.

Do you actually need to sleep the same way a human does or do you...frak you know what I mean right?

I need to idle occasionally and perform a diagnostic, allowing my net to organize my daily input. Essentially as a human needs to do, yes. Though doing so nightly is purely my decision. I prefer to live by standards that may be considered as human as possible.
