A few years back, it was actually possible to put Wikipedia on a liveCD using an appropriate MySQL tuning.
It needed to use things like compressed tables and the like.
No images, but all the text was there rather than just a selection.

I'll look into whether we can do this again and finish it.

Thank you .. that would be interesting. I wonder if the current Wikimedia project is doing something similar?
