We recently installed Wikipedia on DVD on our network and also made a copy available on loan in our school library.

It is available on the student desktops with an start menu icon next to the other 'encyclopedias'  Even though this is only a 0.5 version test release, I am impressed by how popular it has become with students.

Last term, the school receptionist called me to the front desk to report that somebody from the public had dropped off a video for the school library. It was a home made DVD copy of a movie called The Global Warming Swindle. Last week my 500 Gb Lacie HDD just went belly up with some nasty errors, smack in the middle of some DVD productions that I was working on. I was ready to swing the NTFS brute it out of the window by its USB2.0 lead. It wasnt working hard to break my patience and windows system .. just opening any folder on this HDD with a corrupt file would crash ( Read more... )
