Mysterious

André and I watched Mysterious Skin yesterday. (We just can't get enough of that Joseph Gordon-Levitt.) I'm kind of indifferent to some of Gregg Araki's other films but this was an extremely strong and well crafted film. I liked it a lot but it also skeeved me out- partly because of my innocent 'daddy' fetish, but also this film reminds me a lot of ( Read more... )

I've got this in my Netflix queue and now I want to see it even more. I had a friend from childhood that I am now convinced had to have been being abused, but only with the hindsight that experience grants me. I often also wonder how he turned out and think it nearly has to be the same - jail or something worse. I've asked my family if they know what ever happened to him, but they don't know anything.

It's definitely worth watching. It's raw and upsetting, but it has moments of humor and strange beauty- not to mention a strong script and dead on acting.

I was really turned on by the scene where the main character experiences bareback rape at the hands of his psycho trick... I feel pretty conflicted about that.

The only part that had me fully turned on was the sex scene with his first trick: the walrus-daddy guy. Although I did find the psycho trick guy to be very attractive.

The uncomfortably conflicting parts of the film for me was it's parity with my sexual fantasies. During sex and my fantasies I often imagine that I'm much younger than I am, (usually a young teenager), and involved with a much older man. I find the power dynamic very erotic. In this film I saw something very familliar but twisted into something that disgusted me. I found the way it compelled and repullsed me very upsetting.
