I meant, at one point, to go into work to use my email to send off a report for 5 minutes today. Instead, I was there for 3 hours, got nothing work-related accomplished, and left the place in such a mess that two complete work areas are unusable until maintenance comes in ( Read more... )

A few years after I spent a summer sort-of-working in a research lab at the NRC in Ottawa, the lab was wiped out by a fire. (One part of the apparatus/procedure was rather risky as a fire hazard... obvious in retrospect, but it hadn't occurred to anybody before the fire.) A security guard noticed the smoke before the fire really got going, but the fire advanced too quickly to be controlled.

I'm glad that your fire was caught early. Investigation into the cause would be a really good idea -- the fire fighters should have experts to help with this.
