Meds

Being as new to Placebo as I am I was wondering is Meds a bad cd? There's been a rather heated discussion about it on a web site I stumbled on which seemed not worth the effort so I didn't join it but it did make me wonder if this cd was not as popular as their previous stuff ( Read more... )

Well everyone is entitled to thier own opinion... I'm curious what type of music in general you are a fan of. Do you like more organic 'rock' music or are you a listener of Top 40 pop music? If you have an open mind to synthesizers you'll probably like the album.

I myself really do listen to a wide array of music and find each album to have it's own worth. I got all the Placebo albums and both DVDs within a ridiculously condensed amount of time so I was able to digest the discography as a whole. Alot of earlier fans simply are uncomfortable with Placebo going so far away from thier roots and others simply think it's an awful record.

I'm sort of all over the place and the most regular band I've listened to in the last 5 years would be Marilyn Manson and Pink Floyd and Linkin Park I suppose but if I like a song it doesn't matter what genre it is really.

LOL that's what I'll be doing with the band too. I just got Once More With Feeling which will be followed, as money allows with various raids on ebay for their stuff :)

I was just curious about the shit people have been saying about Meds. Personally I love what I've heard of it so far but since I have no real idea of their early stuff I just thought I'd ask :)

Although I should really understand. I loathe Manson's new album, mostly because I dont like depressed Manson I guess

I think it's a good album but I know plenty of people who loathe it. I suggest listening with an open mind and I'm sure you'll approve. What all have you heard off Meds?

All as in the songs or all as in bad things I've read?

Meds isn't a bad album, per se. I agree w/ what velvetgunpowder said, concerning why some earlier fans don't like it.

It's also because it's not as 'Placebo' as their previous albums. I mean, it still has originality, but it's more mainstream [which can be good & bad] & a bit generic: verse, chorus, verse, chorus--which is the 'formula' that most bands go by. Compared w/ the song structures in the Without You I'm Nothing or Black Market Music albums, it doesn't hold a candle, & I guess that disappointed some people, which is understandable.

Meds was actually the 1st album of Placebo's that I heard as a whole [although I already had some of their older songs], & I loved it, but after hearing their older albums it 'grew off' of me. I guess what I'm trying to say is that your opinion of it will change as you hear more & more of their stuff. You'll either like it more..or less.

Ooooh ok well that explains some of the comments that floated around Suckerlove a little while ago. I think several people got into a rather heated discussion about Meds and being able to openly criticise the cd which evolved into an argument about being allowed to express opinions of Placebo in the comm.

Meds is the first cd I've heard nearly all of so far and like you I have earlier songs of theirs mostly via fan vids on youtube. Placebo are rather popular with VG fan vids :) and the odd QaF fan vid.
