I'm not aware of a guide that goes in-depth of the "history" of Moncolle, but I always tend to refer people to https://tomydatabase.weebly.com/ he has the most detailed "database" of Moncolle that I've ever seen for sure. xD While there isn't really text to go with it, you can just visually see most of what's out there.
Sadly he hasn't updated for a couple years?? I wonder if he's still collecting... I know he used to come here and I even helped him get a couple figures.. I can certainly see why he wouldn't update as sadly Takara TOMY has been doing dastardly things with the Moncolle line in general-- Gen 8 BARELY has any of the dex available as Moncolle, because instead they do a bunch of RE-RELEASES and now gen 9 is already coming... But yeah, the huge bucket of re-releases can lead to the confusion and with how often TOMY has been doing them lately, I've definitely stopped bothering with slight variations and focusing more on filling unique pokedex entries.

If you want to start collecting Pokemon Tomy (Moncolle) from the first and second gen, you better strap on; specially if you are looking for new in blister figures. These figures have gone up in price substantially; not to mention the rarest ones like Electrode, Golbat, etc... I've been trying for years to slowly complete the 1st and 2nd gens but it has been quite the journey. Good luck my friend.
I believe a member from this group made a video that does a great job summarizing the history of this line. Not sure of the member's name but I think this is their video.
I don't think I would be patient enough to collect them all either XD Just some of them that I like or find at a great price would suffice to make me happy and bring childhood memories ^^ I wish you good luck to complete your collection then ! Do you have a page where I can see it ?
haha yeah, you definitely need patience if you plan on having them all. Careful, I started saying the exact same thing; just adding a new Tomy here and there and soon I was trying to complete the whole Pokedex LOL. But I'm in the same boat, I collect them because they are part of my childhood memories.
