Please do not beat yourself up over this if you can, seems to me that you have made a very hard yet logical decision for your own personal well being. While reading the "still couldn't get out of bed" bit, my heart went out to you big time, been there, done that and know it can send me there at any point. Goals are good, knowing the importance of them is clever, you've got your head on straight girly, I believe you can do this at your own pace. <3 to you and Sylvie whom I know about because I'm pretty sure you've blogged or posted her somewhere up here in space.
This must have been such a hard decision but it sounds like the right one for you. You have a plan for going forward so it's not like you'll be sitting at home feeling useless. I have to say "good for you" for figuring it out in such short order. A grad-school friend with a chronic illness stayed in her Ph.D. program for way too many years because she Was Going To Finish, Dammit. She just ended up spending a lot of money while beating herself up over her lack of progress. She finally quit last summer and is a lot happier.
I kept this tab open in order to think of something smart and brilliant that would make you feel better. But the thing is, it looks like I've told you everything I could think of already. The main point being that you should be proud of yourself for making this decission, because it was hard and painful. It's not qitting - for me it's brave and I'm proud of you.
