She sat down in the rocking chair with a sigh, glancing down at them as she cradled one in each arm, bottles resting against her chest. The moment they latched on, she breathed a sigh of relief into the silence. Matching pairs of innocent eyes peered up at her knowingly as they suckled the bottles. “That is way too much, Mae.” Lian stared as the water turned green before the suds started to rise.
Mae grinned and plopped a stack of dishes into the sink. “Is not.”
Lian just shook his head and joined him. Together, they worked on the chore of washing the dishes left over from dinner. Mae took over scrubbing while Lian danced around and sung, occasionally pausing to half-heartedly dunk a soapy plate in the water.
The redhead grinned to himself and scooped up a handful of suds while his brother was distracted. He flicked it down the back of Lian’s shirt and snickered at the shriek of outrage.
“See? Just enough!”

“Ahh, yes. I think I have it now.” Haiecere smiled warmly.
He lifted his flute to his lips and took up the melody. Moments later, the elf opened his mouth and a clear, baritone voice emerged, rising to meet the sweet notes. The flute faltered as the black unicorn stared in shock at the albino. Lachlan grinned at him and continued singing.
When the song ended, the elf smiled softly. “My gift to you. Now, I’m afraid, you really must wake up…” His voice was gentle, lilting.
The dream faded. Haiecere woke with brimming eyes.
In his own room, Lachlan smiled in his sleep.

Ian looked out over the waterfall tumbling above the wandering river. “Soon. Just a few minutes.”
Moments later, the sun crested the mountainous horizon. The first few rays caught the mist rising from the falls, setting them aflame with gold, shot through with prismatic glimmers.
“Amazing.” Trace said, exhaling in awe.
Ian smiled, looking up at him, “Not nearly as amazing as the man I love.”
