In which I puke on WoW

Oct 04, 2012 19:54

I'm feeling a little love-hate with WoW right now. Or maybe it's meh-not meh? I enjoyed the new content with the Pandaren starting area, but then I started to compare it with the Goblin one and realized that in terms of silly fun the pandas don't quite measure up for me. The storyline is pleasant enough, and the zone sure is pretty, but in the end ( Read more... )

this is stupid, world of warcraft

Aw, I love Wobbles! It's cute. :D

Also I love that icon! Every time you use it, it makes me grin.

Ooh, names for a disco jellyfish? (so perfect, it's disco friday at my cubicle so. . .)

Andy Gibb
Bee Gee
Funkadelic
Oops Upside Your Head (that ones kind of long)

Or if you don't want a disco tie in, how about something for the "bitch slap" theme:

Slickback (or A Pimp Named Slick Back)

(shout out to "The Boondocks" on that one--damn, that show cracks me up)

Ooo, Funkadelic is a possibility. Names can only be a certain length, I forget how mnay characters exactly, but that should fit.

I like the name Slickback too, but I've never seen the show so I'd feel like a faker, if that makes sense.

And you should know that I am currently listening to Oops Upside Your Head - love that song! I'm butt-dancing in my chair. :D

See now that sort of relaxing mindlessness I can enjoy with the SIms 3. Little goals, little enjoyments. "I want to get to the next level of Alchemy.. etc etc." Thing is, while I'm doing those mindless little goals, I'm also engaged in crafting little stories with my Sims. But not so much in an MMO for long. It will keep me occupied for a while but I need to stimulate my creativity. If there's no other players, I get bored and quit ( ... )

I can get behind the relaxing mindlessness aspect. I'm also not trying to say that reaching for little goals is a bad thing. That can actually be positive, IMO ( ... )

Right, and for me, that can be addictive to a point but I get bored of it fast, I think BECAUSE I realize I'm not getting any stimulus outside of 'pressing the lever.' So yeah, it's good you see the same pattern ( ... )

Good character customization and creative potential are really big for me too. Character customization is one place WoW has traditionally fallen down for me. When they added transmutation for gear, it improved vastly, but still falls far behind the character creators in some other games.

I really really love the one in Champions. It was vastly superior to any other I've seen - so many sliders, so much freedom to customize! Unfortunately the genre just doesn't grab my imagination that well.

I like the name "Spanky".

I have never played WoW, but the Mists of Pandaria adverts on the TV made me think I might like it. I'm not so sure now, especially since I don't want to invest a lot of money in another game if I'm going to lose interest in. I learned my lesson with TS3 (though I do still play from time to time). I have friends who play Secret World and they are always going on about it. I think I would like to try a MMO, but never sure which one would be able to keep my attention.

I always like reading your impressions of the games you play and seeing your screenshots. Maybe one of the days I will branch out from the Sims and Borderlands and try something new.

Spanky is great! :D I might have to flip a coin between that and Wobbles.

Thanks, I like rambling on about various games and it's nice to know that others like reading about them. :)

Borderlands? I've seen/read a little bit about it, but I don't know much. How is it? It looked a bit like Fallout to me (I don't play Fallout, but my SO does).

I'd watch for another sale on The Secret World - twice now I've seen it half off. $25 isn't bad for a game plus a month's subscription. There's also the free demo. If you're interested in MMOs in general, several have free-to-play options so you can try them out. I think with WoW you can play to level 20 on a trial account (don't quote me but that seems right...)

Yes you can play up to 20. It's kind of an extended trial. CO has a pretty limited F2P and so does DCUO. Secret World has the three day trial. (There's other F2Ps out there, too. a lot of them owned by SoE and many of them are wonderful.
