In which I puke on WoW

I'm feeling a little love-hate with WoW right now. Or maybe it's meh-not meh? I enjoyed the new content with the Pandaren starting area, but then I started to compare it with the Goblin one and realized that in terms of silly fun the pandas don't quite measure up for me. The storyline is pleasant enough, and the zone sure is pretty, but in the end ( Read more... )

this is stupid, world of warcraft

See now that sort of relaxing mindlessness I can enjoy with the SIms 3. Little goals, little enjoyments. "I want to get to the next level of Alchemy.. etc etc." Thing is, while I'm doing those mindless little goals, I'm also engaged in crafting little stories with my Sims. But not so much in an MMO for long. It will keep me occupied for a while but I need to stimulate my creativity. If there's no other players, I get bored and quit ( ... )

I can get behind the relaxing mindlessness aspect. I'm also not trying to say that reaching for little goals is a bad thing. That can actually be positive, IMO ( ... )

Right, and for me, that can be addictive to a point but I get bored of it fast, I think BECAUSE I realize I'm not getting any stimulus outside of 'pressing the lever.' So yeah, it's good you see the same pattern ( ... )

Good character customization and creative potential are really big for me too. Character customization is one place WoW has traditionally fallen down for me. When they added transmutation for gear, it improved vastly, but still falls far behind the character creators in some other games.

I really really love the one in Champions. It was vastly superior to any other I've seen - so many sliders, so much freedom to customize! Unfortunately the genre just doesn't grab my imagination that well.

Well the stories aside, the genre is really what you make of it, for both Champions and CoH. For example, Pietro is running around Champions in medieval-ish type style of clothes, druidic vibe and he has bears and wolves fighting with him ( ... )

I know. It's not "cape and tights" that fails to grab me, it's superheroes... I get what you're saying, but for me it's across the entire genre. Comics, cartoons, movies, games, I just have never been into it. Even as a little kid. And that's okay! :)

Okay, The Secret World...

I am totally with you on feeling like I'm not smart enough for it. I had to look up how to do the steps of the white ravens quest, too, and for several other quests or situations too. But I explain that to myself in terms of my character - she would have internet access on her cellphone and be able to do research on the fly. So if I'm having trouble braining out a mission, or experimenting with solutions isn't working, I don't feel bad about Googling stuff, and I can even make it feel "in character" for her. Maybe that would help for you with Thomas?

I'm sure you're much farther along than me in Kingsmouth.

I'm feeling pretty fail about combat, too. I might have to go back and switch to a different weapon set with more healing potential.

See now to a point yeah I can pull that card out for Thomas for sure. The problem I stumble over is stuff like... Okay the Wicked story arc. I got stumped up on 'there's information about the murders in the newspapers'. Um... okay ( ... )

I think you're probably being too hard on yourself. This is a new game for you, and you have to give yourself time to become accustomed to the new ways of thinking in it. I looked up the solution to that tier too.

Besides, you were already thinking along the right lines. A lot of the clues DO seem to be scattered around the world. The newspaper article really could have been anywhere. In fact if I'd been told "go look up the archives" I probably would have looked for a library, not where they ended up being. :)

Combat is kind of annoying me right now. Also, other players. I picked up some blood magic abilities and was working on learning how to use them, but other players kept coming along and killing my mobs. Even when I went deeper into the woods some guy would come along and fucking "save" me and I just wanted to stab him in the face! Argh, lol.

Your bee comment made me laugh, btw! xD
