Wow that was amazing. You made me cry, which shows how amazing it was. The whole Hug before leaving, beautiful.

*passes Kleenex* Sorry about the crying.

I'm glad you like the hug; I was worried it'd come off too "cheesy," per se.

Thank you so much. :)

You know, I've read so many of these "Dean breaks when Sam goes to college" fics that I almost skipped this one. But I'm glad I didn't. It was really, really well done. Congratulations.

Thank you so much. Hearing that you almost passed but didn't, is a real compliment. I'm so glad that you took a chance--and enjoyed--on this one.

Again, thank you. :)

He did not choose Sam. But, he did not choose this.

He did not choose this hollow ache that sits like a heavy pile of lead within his stomach. He did not choose the distance from here to California that will last for a longer time than they both expect. He did not choose this silence that has now enveloped his life.

Oh, my poor Dean. You've described the loss inherent in his almost-choice perfectly.

Thank you very much. I'm glad to know it rang true for his character. :)

This is an interesting take on how the time leading up to Sam’s departure for college might have progressed. I like the idea that both Dean and John could see what was coming, but didn’t want to think about it. After John made that comment at the restaurant, he was clearly able to be in denial much better than Dean, who spent so much time with Sam, was so much closer to Sam, that it was hard to ignore the signs.

“He does what he has to do,” Dean tries to explain, but the words seem weak even to him.

“He does what he wants to do, and he makes us believe it’s his responsibility to humanity.”

Love that, because it perfectly describes their different viewpoints of John at that moment in time. Very, very nicely written.

And Sam stares at him, as if he’s seeing Dean for the first time, and he grabs Dean and just hugs him. They haven’t hugged since they were little, running through mud puddles and squabbling over the eight-pack of crayons. While normally, Dean would have pushed him away with angry protests, he merely holds onto Sam ( ... )

I really think they must've had some idea that Sam was going to leave eventually. I have known people who, say, I went to high school with that I talked to and I knew that they were going to go off and do their own thing. And, sure enough, they've traveled abroad and moved out of state on their own. Also, especially since John and Dean were family, they were a lot closer to Sam, too. I just find it hard to believe that they would have had absolutely no idea that he would want to leave.

After John made that comment at the restaurant, he was clearly able to be in denial much better than Dean, who spent so much time with Sam, was so much closer to Sam, that it was hard to ignore the signs.I think also--and this is just a random sort of thought--that Dean needed Sam more than John did. If Sam left, John would still have one son out of two, but Dean wouldn't have any siblings ( ... )

Agreed. Dean in particular would have figured it out, or at least known before Sam actually told John he got accepted to Stanford.

Yeah. It just makes me wuv Dean even more.

*snuggles Dean*

*passes Kleenex* I seem to have a cold tonight, so I've got plenty to share!

Definitely a yes on the hug. I know Dean's supposed to be all Mr. Unemotional and what not, but seriously, I can't see him just letting Sam go without a hug. (Maybe it's just wishful thinking on my part that they'll eventually show us that on the show.) I guess I thought that since Dean hugged John when they reunited in "Shadows," it shows he's not completely against hugs.

*fangirls you and throws streamers*

*blushes* Aw, hun, you flatter me way too much. :) Thank you.

you have a cold??? aww, do kick it real soon!

yeah, i don't think dean is opposed to hugs, he just won't allow it, like he might really break down or something. he always has to be the strong one, he just can't shake that. i do think they will show more hugs in season two, but maybe that's wishful thinking.

aww, i don't think anyone can be flattered too much! so i'm gonna keep fangirling you and there's nothing you can do about it! *dean voice* heh. :))

Ugh, yeah. Damn colds. *grumbles* I think it may be allergies though. I'm not sure. *grumbles some more*

Aw, this just gave me a scene idea. Sam near death. Hugs Dean. Dean cries. Fine. I just want to see him cry. *facepalm* I need help. lol.

i do think they will show more hugs in season two, but maybe that's wishful thinking.

I hope so, too...although I've been avoiding any and all spoilers. *winces* It's so tempting just to peek really quick! I want to know that the boys are all right!
