I have a monster demon cat. She is the devil, bad behaviour incarnate, a cute little ball of fuzzy fury, and she only likes me.

Unfortunately, my little raving bitch of a kitty's front claws are getting long enough that I'm worried about them puncturing her toe pads, but I am incapable of doing it myself (I still have scars from the last time I ( Read more... )

Have you tried wrapping her in a towel? I know, probably a stupid question for the Fury O' Fuzz. I used to have to do this with my mom's Siamese Terror Twins. It worked quite well. They wailed as if I were ripping their toes off. Such drama for a nail-clipping LOL. Their dignity, at best, was compromised. But, it kept the other sharp pointies occupied while I clipped their claws one paw at a time ( ... )

I have tried wrapping her in a towel, then wrapped her wrapped in the towel into a blanket, and she's still managed to escape. She's wiley and apparently very, very slippery.

I hadn't thought about the Xanax. I work in psychiatry, too, so maybe my boss could give me a free sample of some Xanax if my vet approves it. Hmmm.....

I've tried several types of scratchy pad but she just turns up her nose at them. The best I've managed is bits of carpeting, which gets the clawing instinct out of her system but doesn't help with actual claw length.

I used to wrap the Terror Twins sort of tightly--like a papoose. And damnit, cats don't have handles. What's up with that?

My cat doesn't take pills well, so I had the Xanax compounded into a liquid--very handy. The vet started her on .5ml. And the Xanax might cut the edge on the rest of her personality as well so she's at least not the Limb of Satan.

Does she like cat nip? That may entice her to scratch on an emery scratcher.

Good luck and keep us posted!

We're really lucky that our cat is not bothered by the claw clipping, but I feel for ya. Unfortunately the only vet I've used is Bethel Park Cat Clinic. Good luck!

I would ask the vet to do them. They'll be able to handle her without doping her up.

I once to my cat to get groomed and the groomer drugged him so she could shave him, and he puked for several hours after.

That's horrible about the groomer drugging your cat! Did they ask your permission first or did they just do it? I'd sue...

I was thinking about going to my vet, but that's so expensive... I was hoping to find a cheaper option and use my vet as a last resort.

I absolutely adore my vet (Bloomfield Cat Clinic) so if needs be I'll take her there; I was just hoping for something less expensive.

Clipping my cats involves two people and large towels and waiting till they're dozy and calm. At that, it's still an iffy proposition and we figure we're doing good if we get at least one paw done in a session.

The vet is the only other option we've considered, but they're both in very good shape and my girl cat has the same traumatic issues with travel.

My cat only loves me, which is sweet and flattering most of the time, but unfortunately prevents me from doing things like getting help from others. Stupid cat...
