I walked five blocks in Oakland (sidewalks and roads uncleared) and came home with frostbite. It's madness out there.

They were probably completely unprepared. The forecast was "high 40s and rain" last night when I went to bed, "2-4 inches starting around 5 pm" when I woke up, and "5-8 inches" when there was already five inches on the ground!

You know, you could probably get some great cross-country skiing in if you were pulled by a Homeland Security SUV down unplowed city streets while ambulances struggle on by.

Wonder if Carnegie Mellon is going to foolishly try and open tomorrow?

Meanwhile, here in Forest Hills the plows and salt trucks are doing a fine job on residential streets.

I guess it's all that $$$ we have leftover not trying to prop up closed-book PAT contracts and pension funds.

I've been checking the delay/closing list (at the behest of my darling Mellonhead) and have not seen it yet. I believe that the universities are going to wait and see if PaT calls it first.

The city doesn't have anything to do with PAT contracts or pensions, that's a county and state funding issue.

I'm on a secondary tertiary Quaternary road, so I'll see a plow next week, but everything else around looks plowed and salted. Just saw a bus go by, too.
