Night shift work?

Feb 14, 2011 07:05

Any tips or tricks to working the night shift?  Any ideas on where the heck you find those jobs in the burgh??  I'm an ex-office worker in the nonprofit sector but willing to clean toilets, dig ditches, or assemble something a million times to earn a better life for my daughter!

When I was doing it, there was a demand for night shift security guards, which usually involved all of sitting at a desk with monitors, usually in the lobby of an otherwise empty building (sometimes the cleaning staff too).
If you want more info on the contacts I have for this, drop me a line.

I also know the names of a couple of cleaning services, which tend to work the hours you asked about, but I know nothing of their practices or anything like that.

And I think FedEx and UPS do a lot of their prep for shipping during those hours, too.

I know these two places have a night shift. No idea if they are hiring, but might be worth checking out.

Hey Oushi, CJ does close captioning, possibly for the same company. You might ask him about it.

Western Psych's in-patient units are always looking for milieu therapists. If you work night shift, especially on the children's units, you basically just sit there and make sure people don't sneak out of their rooms, or talk to them for a while if they need to get something off their chests before helping them back to bed.

Unit Secretaries usually aren't around at night. At least not on my unit/in my hospital. Not sure how the others run.

We are always in need of night NAs and PCTs.

are you a good typist? you could get yourself transcribing equipment and make some money transcribing tapes (interview tapes, like from psychology experiments etc.) from local universities. Or maybe it doesn't have to be local anymore with the internet, I dunno. Anyway, it's monotonous work, but you get to sit on your butt and more or less choose your hours. Probably not a full-time gig, though. Just a way to make extra money.
