Where to buy an upright bass?

Mar 03, 2010 12:09

My SO has been looking to buy an upright bass. He cannot go top-of-the-line, so the budget is ~$600 (max). Are there any music stores in the area that sell instruments, or should he stick to online?

music, retail: music, retail

Guitar World might have a used one.

you could go local with Volkweins.

they don't have a Bass listed, but there's not harm in calling. they might be able to act as a broker to get you one.

brighton music center has the upright bass listed on their rental list. i'm making a guess that if they have them for rental, perhaps they'd have a used one for sale? brightonmusic.com that's who we get all our band stuff from, that's why they came to mind :) not sure if it will be helpful or not.

Try Progessive in McKeesport (http://www.progressivemusiccompany.com/). They do BIG lease-to-own business with local schools and may have something for you.

The primo serious music store in the Pittsburgh area is Volkwein's out in Robinson http://www.volkweins.com/index.htm

They do sell used instruments, though they don't seem to have any basses right now. They also rent, but the rental on a bass is pretty stiff - $105 for the first four months, then $54/month thereafter.
