Local Coffee Shop

Sep 04, 2007 19:30

I'm an avid coffee and tea drinker and lately I've become terribly picky in regards to that. Starbucks can't seem to understand that I do not want to drink coffee so sweet my mouth caves in. Plus I'd rather support local business as opposed to a chain if I can. Anyway, I'm used to the likes of Katerbean or The Coffee Tree, but traveling to the East ( Read more... )

How late are they open till?

My wife and I are coming into town in a couple weeks, and we might want to hang out there before seeing a Pirate game...

Have you tried the Americano at Bucks? Its just espresso and water, a nice really smooth cup. it doesnt come sweetened. and any of the other drinks, you can get less pumps of any syrup or sweetener that is in it, just ask

yeah, starbucks espresso is worlds better than their drip.

also, crazy mocha has good coffee. and a good atmosphere. and it's local. and it rocks.

I usually try to hit the small local stuff first, especially if it's fair trade coffee beans.

I have always asked for half of the syrup when I'm in the Bucks though, it's just nice not to have to ask every once in awhile. I'll admit to being a coffee prude, and sometimes the quality in Starbucks for the price is a little out of control. I've had more crappy drinks in there than anywhere else. But it also depends on the Baristas and the amount of traffic. Some locations are definitely better than others.

I definitely will try that though, thanks for the suggestion. Every time I travel Starbucks definitely saves my life, haha.

i know you are all for the local stuff, and i applaude you for that, but look into starbucks policy's and how they handle their business. its not really the horrible corporation that its made out to be in most cases. over saturation? sure. but they treat their employees amazingly, which is a lot more then be said for most places of employment. but i could be biase, since i work there.

yeah, the americano sounds like a good bet for you. or try just a plain latte, there isnt any sugar in that either.

Beleeza is the shit.
I've been going there for months, their coffee is out of this world. And their chocolate chip cookies.

I haven't experienced the chocolate chip cookies. Though I love the coffee. My current favorite is Peace coffee. I bought some for my parents and they now won't drink anything else.

Beleza is, literally, 1 block from my house. Its gotten to thge point where I don't even make coffee at home anymore. I get the nicaraguan and my wife drinks the decaff (yeah yeah I know). They're a damn good bunch of kids. All of the coffee *is* fair trade by the way and all but two of the people who work there are part owners. One fo the things I love about them is that they actually believe in the neighborhood and they opened a coffeeshop to help build the community - not to make a buck (of course if they make a buck in the process they won't say no).

As for starbucks - well I don't drink their coffee because I actually want coffee and not that nasty over roasted burned crap they sell.

Yep, it's about a block and a half for me. The Nicaraguan is delicious. I think that is the first one I tried, and the one I have in my apartment currently.

Thank you for posting this. I live on the East End, but go to the North Shore occasionally. It's good to know there's a quality place to get my fix. :)
