It's not affirmative action hohaiyee October 5 2009, 03:09:14 UTC
Cause hello, WHAT ABOUT TOSH?

Srsly, as a Tosh fan, I just want to eat people when they suggest that I hate Gwen because I'm a Janto fan. No, actually, I like Janto, but I don't have much hots for them, not right now. I don't like Gwen for lots of reason, including the fact that they've decided to keep her after killing off everyone else who I do like, Suzie, Owen, Tosh, Ianto, why did we keep HER?

...and srsly, I can't help but feel that the type of people who step me down for bashing Gwen on the 'you just hate her because she's a gurl' reason, probably doesn't give a damn about Tosh (or Swanson), and probably would have voted for someone like Palin if she had ran under a Democrat's banner.

I agree with everything you've said, you did miss out that her insistence on continuing with the wedding resulted in the death of the DJ. Someone else dead thanks to her and her alone.

And I'd have to rewatch Day One, but doesn't she make a huge stink about knowing everything about Carys and making a collage in her honor and all, and then when it comes to an actual important piece of information, like her working for a fertility clinic, it's someone else who puts it together?

She also got in a snit because Jack wasn't bringing her father in to see her. Jack had to point out that Carys was possessed by alien sex gas that needed to have sex with men which would include her father.

Unfortunately, being German, I do not know what affirmative action is---that is not a joke, by the way, I am sure we have it back home, whatever it is--

Anyhow, this is great---

If used correctly affirmative action is hiring the best person for the job regardless of race or sex. There was also a percentage based on how many employees a company had of how many of women and how many minorities a company should employ (otherwise, here in the US, a company in the 1960-1970s would just hire all white men even if they weren't right for the job). Unfortunately it didn't work quite like that and companies started accusing the government of forcing them to hire minorities and women who couldn't do the jobs just so they met the "quota" (the percentage).

Oh, I understand something else now--this crops up in US TV shows, doesn't it?

As far as I know the Allgemeines Gleichbehandlungsgesetz is our anti discrimination law. However, I don't think it is like you describe.

Thanks for explaining this term for me.

I think this is great but would like to add a few things.

Everything Changes
She got a man killed because she wouldn't listen or pay attention to all the "Keep Out" signs. Also, I don't think she's resistant to retcon. Her memory was jogged when she was delivering coffee and saw an exact drawing of the ALIEN weapon. (I still want to know how they got an exact description of alien tech)

Day One
Where did she get off telling more experienced agents that they shouldn't be using other agencies' systems or accusing them of not helping Carys just because they were having lunch?

Kiss Kiss Bang Bang
I don't think Gwen was in charge. Maybe in her own mind but I don't see any of them following her orders. Especially after the "grieving widow" crap she pulled before Jack woke up.

Re Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, I think the rest of the team let Gwen think she was in charge, mainly because they had actual work to do and she didn't.

I believe that too. What does she actually do in series 1 and 2? I don't recall seeing or hearing her liasioning with the police. And her 2 or 3 attempts at profiling were laughable. Not to mention does she even know how to work a computer? When she did her thing in Day One and Adrift she printed all these pictures up in haphazard fashion without any notes and still didn't seem to know what she was doing.

At the end of Everything Changes when Suzie is holding the gun on Gwen, she confessing to leaking the info on the knife to the police.
