Don't come up here with *no* money. Seattle isn't cheap. You can learn to live cheaply here, but there's a learning curve. We've got some great resources and you'll get along fine until your on your feet.
Look for rooms around the University of Washington (U Dist., University District). There are some real shit-holes there, but it *can* be one of the easier places to get into an apartment quickly. Also, West Seattle is surprisingly affordable. (Cayce and Gain Real Estate Management is my landlord, and I'm paying $500 a month for a nice one bedroom)
When you get here check out the Seattle Weekly and the Stranger (both have Websites also) for jobs and apartments. I don't know what it's like elsewhere, but I've never gotten a job from the paper. I have always had to go to a ton of places and apply in person. A lot of places just don't bother to advertise in the paper here.
