Singularity, a phone conversation. (2W)

My grandma just called me up to wish me a happy new year, and to express her deepest regret about not getting any one-on-one time with me this break. We talked for a time. She brought up my sister Carly's boyfriend Cameron, how the three of them had gone out for dinner. She talked about Cameron, what she thought of him, mentioned some things about ( Read more... )

You don't have a dildo? Sweetie. Tell me you at least have a vibrator. If not, DO YOURSELF A FAVOR.

Nope. Nothing. I've got 2 hands. It never occurred to me to get one.

God, that sounds like my mother. A while ago, when she was telling me about my brother's girlfriend who, at that point, I had not yet met, she was going on about how, "Oh, it's so nice, I mean, don't you want that? Don't you want something nice like that? I mean, it's just really good. I just want you to be happy. Don't you want companionship, don't you want that?" It's like she thinks I can't be happy without a boyfriend, or that without one, I don't have "companionship" in my life or something. It's really disturbing. She's also on this really fucked up quest to marry me off to one of my friends with whom I have a really difficult, fraught and bad romantic history, but she refuses to acknowledge that it could be anything less than happy sunshine and flowers between us. It's just ridiculous that she assumes I'm somehow not "complete" if I don't have a boyfriend.

Major props from me not just for telling your grandmother that what you wanted wasn't what she wanted for you, but also for knowing what you want in the first place, and knowing not to settle for a random guy.

Ann Arbor's a big place. Or at least medium-sized. You can find someone attractive (and maybe in med school, to pacify your gramma :P ).

But I don't want to go out and pick up a guy just to please my grandma. I want a hot guy that I'm attracted to to also be attracted to ME. Which NEVER HAPPENS.
