I love your Dean voice here. :) And I've always loved the idea of Lorelai and Dean together.

That's one of the things I liked on the show: where they actually made Dean and Lorelai friends while he and Rory were together. So a lot of times it was about the three of them. How he understood both of them and didn't have a problem keeping up with the Gilmore humor, etc. (And, I must admit, I also liked the fact that Lorelai really didn't have that same sort of relationship with either Jess or Logan....)

I've always thought it would have been really interesting if she had invited him in, and it was then Dean who drove her to the hospital when Richard collapsed. ~ OMG. I so very much want to see that now!

Thoroughly enjoyed this.

I loved Jared's character on Gilmore Girls, and actually think he and Lorelei were more 'simpatico' than he and Rory ever were. From the first time he stood up to Lorelei that movie night, to all the times Lorelei stood up for Dean, these two had a great relationship. I loved the little 'lecture' Dean gave Max when the four of them double-dated. Dean was obviously in-tune with the Gilmore women.

I, too, never 'got' Jess. While he did improve with age, his early character was a punk, and I never understood why Rory continued to flirt with him (and worse) when she was with Dean.

Sorry this was so rambling, but I wanted to comment. The voices were wonderful. Thanks so much for sharing this with us.

I agree! Dean was such an easy fit! He was meant to be a Gilmore Guy! He was just with the wrong Gilmore Girl! ;)

If the Jess that went to Liz's wedding had been the one who came to Stars Hollow to begin with, I would have understood. He did indeed improve with age, but they had to change the character to get there. In fact, they had to make him more Dean- ( ... )

I am so SO glad you set up and Lj account! What a great comment!

You have done a great job here working with what we know of both characters from canon and then extrapolating from that what a more intimate relationship between them would be like. Great job with the dialogue and Lorelai's neuroses and Dean's steadiness and inner strength that somehow survived his tangled relationship with Rory.

Thank you so much! I was striving to make them recognizable and believable.

Also, thank you letting Dean be smart and witty here. (Rory always seemed to know that Dean was plenty smart but that not everybody, including Dean, would nor should have quite the same burning need to stock up on the academic knowledge that she had.)

Yes, I really hated the inference, after Jess joined the show, that Dean was stupid, unhip and not well-read. He was always funny and intelligent. I mean, can you compare being able to build a car with getting all As at an exclusive private school? Knowledge can be measured in different ways.

Anyway, I also ( ... )

Because it had some funny stuff. I can just imagine: Lorelai telling her parents that her fiance (and Rory's step-father) was Rory's ex-boyfriend. I would pay BIG money to be a fly on that wall, and I hate spending money.

I'm glad you decided to read it too! Thanks!

Yeah, maybe I'll have to write that scene someday. I have a feeling Richard may get pretty close to having another heart attack!

I think it'll be EMILY to go down first, personally.

Really? You think Emily is more appalled by Dean than Richard?

Hi! Thank you so much! I've just been revising this one to repost on FF.Net so I was so surprised and happy to see a new comment!

Lorelai is something, and the GG writers were amazing, so I'm so glad you felt she sounded right!

I always like to go back to first season Dean, before the 1st break-up and see all the confidence, flirtiness, humor and sense of presence that he had, as well as his dependability and responsibility, and that is the man I think he would have grown up to be. Some of those qualities took a back seat in the writing later on, but I think at his core that's who Dean Forester really is.

I am so glad you see that too!

Thank you!
