Gay TV shows and a poll, plus assorted randomness

Finally switched over to S2 and tried that new layout everyone else seems to be using. Yes, I'm a sheep. Baaaaaa. Except I did it on my work computer (bad Pips! bad!) where the monitor is a regular ol' desk monitor, and now I'm looking at it on my laptop and the colors are all wrong. You can't even see the light blue background for each entry. Oh ( Read more... )

It really depends on what you like. The two shows are really about as different as two shows can be.

I've seen all of Farscape, and loved it. Although there are some 'ships (as there are in most shows), it's more about the plot. Most episodes are somewhere along the lines of "oh no, we're going to die! ...or, not."

I've only seen 3 1/2 episodes of QaF, and the appeal for me is mostly boys kissing, or actually now that I think about it, boys dancing all sexy-like. If you like to watch gay sex, this show is for you! The episodes are more along the lines of, "okay, that happened with those characters, but how will it turn out?". They're not on a living ship full of strange alien creatures, but their lives are complicated and interesting.

So.. I can't vote because I can't choose. My only advice is, if you watch one, watch the episodes in order from the beginning, the way the shows were meant to be watched, and don't allow yourself to be spoiled. I did this with Farscape (and now with QaF), and it's wonderful.

Hmmm, that makes sense. Thanks for pointing out the differences. I have to say that at this point I'm more inclined towards Farscape, mostly because it's sci-fi and QAF is not. The first ep I ever saw (and I don't think it really spoiled me for anything, since, again, no freakin' clue what was happening), consisted entirely of Crichton and some old guy sitting on this iceberg in the middle of nowhere, having a conversation about alternate universes and wormholes and all these other metaphysical topics, and I was fascinated. I LOVE that stuff.

QAF sounds great, and characters are generally more interesting to me than plot, but then again I don't really care about watching gay sex specifically for the sake of, well, gay sex. The relationship has to be believable first. (Which may explain why I just don't "get" slash in general. Hmm.)

Okay, Farscape it is. Now all I need to do is find enough time to, you know, watch the episodes. :) And I will definitely take your advice about watching the eps in order. (I managed to do that with Angel ( ... )
