Suggestions for DC Area?

My mom is coming to visit me in June for the first time ever. I have lived in VA since 8th grade so its a big deal. I am trying to plan stuff for us to do and am looking for suggestion. Are there places my mom should see or visit? I have to admit that I actually haven't done much "touristy" stuff over the years. I have some ideas but want to

I like to take visitors to the American History museum. It has a lot of cute stuff like Dorothy's ruby slippers and the original star spangled banner.

I took my mom to the monuments at night. We went and had dinner and then a nice dessert, and walked around the monuments. She loved it.
