Countdown Teasers

Nov 10, 2007 17:20

so, we all speculated about those Countdown Teasers.
Each one of us has theories, hunches.

So, let´s analyze, compare, discuss, rant....

(I sized the first two down to 1204x768 cause photobucket says that´s that the limit.
If you have links to the bigger pics, leave them here.
Or maybe I will search for them myself, that depends.)

I´m not finished yet.
I wrote that this is still under construction because lately my pc is acting wierd and just shuts itself off, so I saved it now, or else I could lose it all.
I´m going to edit this post.
I´m not done with the apostels, then my interpretations aren´t there yet; the official interpretations aren´t there yet...and the first Teaser isn´t up either.

I don´t know.
I never followed his storyline to be honest.
But I think it has to be around 52 or after that.
Or it will still happen.
I hope that some of the kind people here can help us out.

Suppose it means something like "ultimate favorite super best paring ever"

don´t know literal "translation"

It would be a LOT of work to apply specific traits from the apostles into characterization and plotting. I'm guessing, really, that the specific apostles and trivia about them don't have too much to do with what might happen -- it's a toss-up, considering we are living in the era of Umberto Eco ripoffs and ARGs (the "I believe in Harvey Dent" thing). Things can be this layered, but DC's recent history of plottery fuckcanon means that it can't actually mirror or incorporate other sources, even classical ones, for very long, or very faithfully.

runenklinge November 10 2007, 22:58:43 UTC
so basically, DC isn´t dealing with real traits, but with shallow rip-offs of the true charactersitics; mainly common misbeliefs or unaccuracy?

1) well, I´m not finished yet. Currently I´m trying to recharge my brain. Other non-so-biblical conclusions (or pseudo-conclusions) will follow.

2) but we can still speculate on those shallow traits, can´t we?

What are the "real" traits? I'm pretty sure you'll find plenty of scholars and sources outside of wikipedia who'll disagree over ... everything, basically. That may or may not be too "deep" for them to go while still somehow completing their own plot points and twists. That's really the biggest problem. They've got a certain "checklist" of things to achieve, or that's how it seems to me, judging by what fans hear in interviews and then read about in previews while looking at what's actually out right now. If you have to include Biblical symbolism too, it can get overly complicated (and it's a Friggin Crisis, which means it's ALREADY too complicated). At best, they'd probably have to pick and choose from various facts/theories/trivia to make stuff fit; even if they actually began all the planning for this based off of the idea of that picture, they're going to have to depart in order to surprise readers. But basing an entire Crisis on religious art interpretation from the Last Supper seems unlikely, to me ( ... )

I meant as an opposite to "real" traits these common things everyone seems to know and be an expert about. Here, it was Dan Brown with his novels who started another conspiracy-therapy hive. People read pseudo-scientific historical books, read thing about illuminati, assassini, stone cutter cults....blablayaddayaddah

For example the thing with Mary Magdalena...if I had a nickel for everytime some TV-special was broadcasted, everytime a science magazine published articles, everytime amateurs presented theories about her and Jesus...oh man. I´d be rich. Stinking rich.

And i´m glad we know get to speculating. I really want to know more opinions on what you think will happen; won´t happen...everything

I kind of went tl;dr on you once it got to the Last Supper hyper-analysis, so pardon if this was already brought up.

@ Trickster:

At first, I didn't think twice about James cosplaying as Axel on two occasions, because costumes change. And I forgot about it when I realized that Countdown sucks with getting costumes right at all. But since he's been drawn relatively consistently, this becomes significant.

Assuming every strange thing was intentional, either it's Trickster going full-evil (which is only about as OOC as being an S-grade 'phobe), or it's the presence of T2. In the case of the later, this absolves T1 of doing anything particularly wicked, but opens a can or worms for the little guy. He makes James expendable, and is probably immature enough to try.

Also: Piper isn´t in this pic because he´s not a villain. NOT DEAD!Agreed on 300%, albeit behind a veil of denial. Piper's not high-profile enough to be on the heroes promo, and not even remotely evil. The flute is (hopefully) to keep him accounted for, because there are ( ... )

I had just the best explanation why James is wearing Axel´s costume:

to blame him!!!
He wreaks havoc dressed as Axel, and when someone wants to put him to justice for it, he says: "Oh, you must be getting something mixed up here. I wear striped pants; it´s the kid you´re looking for. Not me"

I don´t think that Tricks is going full evil. There is still this Neron issue (Tricks doesn´t know Neron´s trapped I think)
Axel can appear. That would be even funny!

That´s a good thought with the artifacts!!
I´m gonna include that in the post if you don´t mind.

I am against them dying anytime. Besides, people only read Countdown because of them. The other storylines?
Puh-lease.

I know about the Neron thing, but the Countdown writers are playing James as having always been a 'phobe, so it's not a stretch for them to throw out a more important piece of canon. Far be it for me to play the logic card. :(

And the problem with the cosplay theory is that it'd involve changing clothes. Which probably won't happen unless T1 goes all domestic violence again. Axel would be a nice little wildcard, sure. The only problem with guests in that storyline is that they're not chained in, and therefore don't stick. I don't expect any permanent buddies, unless Deadshot attaches somebody else to Piper.

...Which would be ridiculous. In a good way.

I know this real fun game:

It´s called the molecule game:

you play it with many people; the more, the better.
It´s basically like tag, but one thing is special:

One is the catcher. He runs around and tries to catch people and when he tags someone, both persons now must run around together. They can´t let go of each other.
Now you have a tandem-catcher. If they manage to grab another one, he also must join them.
Now you get a trio.
Whnen you have captured another player and you have a line of four, you´re allowed to seperate again into 2 2player teams. Which are both catchers amd must catch the others.
Last man standing wins

Countdown:
Well, we have a tandem already. Chain Axel up to them and we have our trio....and the madness continues until we are at the end of countdown and have hundreds of pairs of superheroes/villains chained together.

This game is fun (with 30 people is certainly is)

your comment just reminded me of this.
We need this to happen.

"Death is coming. And...and he's on skis." sollie7 November 12 2007, 05:48:46 UTC
The skis refer to Death. The Black Racer is a New God, and an avatar of death in the DCU. The grim reaper on skis. I love comics.

I believe it represents my utter lack of interest in most of Countdown, because there's no way you can tout your story as a serious business layer-filled masterpiece and then throw death on skis in there and expect us to keep a straight face.

I think I´m going to edit my post and inclue this.

Whoo-hoo! Go Binky!!

Umm... random musings on The Sword from a lurker.

So a fallen Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman?

Or did Wonder Woman's sword take out Batman and Superman? It's in the middle... she causes a rift between them?

the objects could symbolize their fall.
but, these is a villains-only picture and the "others" are represented by objects. And on the previous teaser they were not on baren ground and therefore declared safe.

But the middle thing...I didn´t notice that before

Your opinion will be included in the post;thanks for your contribution.

and Binky IS cool. my fav DEATH ever...certainly better than skies...
