Is there any type of meat product lines and dairy product lines that are more "animal friendly" then the big agribusinesses?(if thats a word.. you know what i mean) I hate how the animals have to suffer and have a HORRIBLE life before getting eaten.. I always thought small farmers raised them good and they had good lives and then they killed them ( Read more... )

You live in an idealistic world.

Idealism is a good thing, for it can spur one to try great things. And without trying, no one achieves anything truly great.

you could raise your own chickens & rabbits
then kill them your self

mares eat oats
and does eat oats
and little lambs eat ivy
A kid will eat ivy too
wouldn't you?

well i found a bunch of products called "certified humane" that raise them nicely and cage free chickens and such.. and they are happy critters during their life..http://www.hsus.org/press_and_publications/press_releases/certified_humane_food_label_unveiled.html
and there are a bunch of stores that carry the food but no stores in florida..

just be aware free range
is legal jargon
"technicaly" they have access to the free open range
where they can frolic in the sun
lay in the grass & look for tasty bugs to eat
but, reality is another story

you don't have to be a vegetarian to be compasionate for the earth & it's creatures
try looking into "earthsave"
they recommend a "plant based diet" but, aren't militant about the whole veggie thing
i've been vegetarian for 13 years
& still can't stand preachy vegetarians

yeh kristen just came over and said that usually those certified humane places are BS.. but they probably are "better" RIGHT? like maybe those type products they dont debeak the birds or strap the pigs to the pen? That would make me feel better if that was the case but thats messed up if its all a crock.. I dont want to eat animals that have suffered.. but i LOVE FIREHOUSE subs.. uhhh its such a struggle..

i think your best bet is to buy directly from small, local farmers. the cost (dollars) is higher, but if it's something that you feel strongly about and need to do, it's doable.

BTW, i found you through lauralei and iplaywithfrogs, and i have added you to my friends list.

Yeh I guess I could.. I have found its difficult to find that in Jacksonville.. Do you know of any products like this? I dont know if I could even do it because at this point Im just totally grossed out by thinking of eating an animal.. i dont like to associate animals with food... but if it was a legitamate company or something and the animals were truely raised humanely that would be awesome..
