I've never seen a single episode of it and I don't plan to
Me neither.
Foundation...
I majored in economics as an undergraduate at UC Berkeley because they didn't offer a psychohistory major. 😀
I loved the Foundation trilogy when I was a teenager, and the show just didn't capture what I loved about it. Which doesn't make it a bad stand-alone, of course. I just couldn't watch it.
I saw like 1.5 episodes of Succession. I'm fine with unlikable characters, but it was seriously nothing BUT whiny, entitled brats being whiny entitled brats and me wanting to smack the shit out of everyone the whole time. I guess I need my unlikable with a twist of an ironic predicament, or...something. Just not that.
I mean I watched as many tv shows with anti-heroes as anyone else who was watching television in the '00s. I liked both Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul. Those actors had charisma that made you want to watch them, but the characters were objectively not good people. But they had more complex backstories and motives than "Born rich and entitled, wants even more power and billions". And while drug cartels have certainly contributed to human suffering, no one has done more to damage this country, and by extension the world, than Rupert Murdoch, who Logan Roy was obviously a stand-in for. The only media I want to watch about that asshole is if he gets dragged into The Hague for crimes against humanity and they televise his trial.
This is true. Walter White was a hard working teacher trying to make the best of a bad situation. He was undeniably a Bad Guy, but that only developed over time. The very title of the show (which I'm sure you already know, just saying) is slang for when you stop being law-abiding and say, "Fuck following the rules, I'm done being a chump...oh, well, I'm too far gone now..."
Although "The Sopranos" is kind of - born violent criminals and lived and died violent criminals, but I still loved that show. Although I guess they menaced their immediate surroundings but not the entire world like mega-billionaires.
I also never read the books, even though i read tons of sci-fi from that era (including Asimov) when i was a kid. But i thought the show was great. Super big, epic, over-the-top sci-fi. That stuff is FUN! I'll take my serious sci-fi where i can get it (The Expanse), but every now and then you just need something epic. Halo was surprisingly good for that too, although once again the so-called fans all hated it.

The plot of "Pearl" does sound pretty intriguing, and I'm looking for horror movies to review. Hmm....
