There is no evidence that we've been placed on this planet to be especially happy or especially normal. And in fact our unhappiness and our strangeness, our anxieties and compulsions, those least fashionable aspects of our personalities, are quite often what lead us to do rather interesting things.
I always listen to Jon Ronson's books on audio, because he has a really distinct voice and a pleasant Welsh accent. I like his books, although his faux-naïf schtick sometimes grates. I think it really only works the first time you read him, and after that you find yourself shouting things like "I know you don't actually think Scientologists are an objective party when it comes to psychiatry, Jon!" as the book plays through the car speakers on the commute home.
Or that might just be me. It's probably just me.
Also I've read like 5 of his books now and I still want to call him "Ron Johnson" whenever I think of him.

I watched both X and Pearl this week, and it did not really change my opinion of Ti West (overrated), although neither of those movies was as deathly dull as either The House of the Devil or The Innkeepers; the latter movie I actually did kind of like, but House of the Devil was just a total slog. But kudos to Mia Goth for some absolutely bonkers-ass performances though, especially in Pearl. If I bother to see MaXXXine, West's planned 3rd installment, it will be for her.

Pour one out for Cormac McCarthy, an iconic American writer who I always wished I liked more. Dude was an absolutely fantastic writer, but his subject matter was also just so unrelentingly grim. He was 89 and came out with a pair of novels last year, so he was clearly still firing on all cylinders up until the end.
I think that when the lies are all told and forgot the truth will be there yet. It dont move about from place to place and it dont change from time to time. You cant corrupt it any more than you can salt salt.

I know fans of the books didn't like the first season, but I ain't care because a) I've never read the books (not a huge fan of pre-Gibson SF, although I've read some of Asimov's robot stuff), and b) Lee Pace!

Look, unless Succession ended with all of Logan Roy's children getting buried alive with his corpse, I'm gonna need everyone to stop bothering me about that show. I've never seen a single episode of it and I don't plan to. I don't give a single shit which horrible child inherited their horrible father's horrible media empire. I live in a world that rich white assholes have made, I don't need to waste my time watching fiction about them.
