Author’s Notes: Here is part 3 of the What Makes a Family series in the Karisverse.
Two months later, Adam, Kris, and Allison were waiting anxiously in the doctor’s office. Allison had gone through the process of artificial insemination. Now, they were waiting to find out if she was pregnant.
Adam was sitting between them. He was the most nervous. He kept fidgeting in his seat, tapping his foot, and biting his fingernails. Allison and Kris seemed calm. They had been all for this from the start. Truthfully, Adam still had his reservations about it. The three of them had talked about everything before going ahead with the procedure. Even though they had a plan, Adam still felt like things could get weird and complicated between them. It was the last thing that he wanted.
“Sorry that I kept you waiting.” Dr. Grover declared as she walked into the room.
“Its fine, doctor.” Kris spoke for all of them.
“Well, I have wonderful news for all of you. Allison’s pregnant.” Dr. Grover stated with a bright smile.
Kris started to cry. Quickly, he hugged Allison and then Adam. Allison was smiling ear to ear as a few tears also fell. Adam was surprised to find himself beaming and tearing up. He hadn’t expected to feel this happy about the news.
“So now, Allison, I’m going to give you a list of things to avoid…certain foods, medications, things like that. I want you to stay on the vitamin routine that we already set up for you. If you have any problems or concerns, you can call the office. Other than that, we will set up another appointment for you in a few weeks. Okay?”
“Okay.” Allison answered shaking her head.
When they left the doctor’s office, Adam and Kris took Allison out to dinner to celebrate. Adam was happy, but still skeptical. How could this baby not change everything?
