“You throw an awesome party, babyboy.” Tommy told Adam with a bright smile as he hugged him.
Adam smiled and returned the embrace. It was New Year’s Eve. Adam had decided to throw a party at his house for his close friends and family to usher in the New Year. He was having a great time hanging out with his friends. It felt like old times even though some new people were there.
“I was beginning to think that you weren’t going to show up.” Adam stated. It was about eleven.
“I wanted to be here earlier, but I had to make a few stops. Dave was throwing a party and Mia was having one too. I put in appearances, but I wanted to make sure that I was here at midnight.” Tommy explained as Adam got him a drink.
“Why is that, glitterbaby?” Adam asked absentmindedly as he freshened up his own drink.
“Just in case you needed someone to kiss at midnight.” Tommy replied with a smirk at the shocked expression on Adam’s face.
“Tommy, I…” Adam began to say before he was interrupted by a loud crash from the other room.
For a moment the two men just stared at one another.
“I should go see what happened…make sure everyone is okay.” Adam told him reluctantly.
“Okay…I’ll be around.” Tommy responded as Adam walked off.
When Adam got into the other room, he discovered that Taylor had accidentally bumped into a stand and knocked a vase on the floor. A bunch of people were already cleaning it up.
“I’m really sorry.” Taylor apologized when he saw Adam. He looked really upset.
“It’s fine. Is everyone okay? Did you get hurt Taylor?” Adam quizzed as he surveyed the damage.
“No, but I’m sorry about the vase.” Taylor answered.
“Don’t worry about it. I hated that thing anyway.” Adam told him with a smile.
Once the mess was cleaned up, Adam returned to mingling with his friends. A few times he caught Tommy’s eye from across the room. Tommy would smile at him and quickly look away. Adam couldn’t get what Tommy had said to him out of his mind. Did Tommy really want to be his midnight kiss or was he just joking around?
About five minutes before midnight, Adam and Tommy found themselves alone in the kitchen. Adam had gone to get refills on some of the snacks. Tommy had followed him.
“So do you?” Tommy asked as he hopped up to sit on the counter. He took a chip from the bowl and popped it in his mouth.
“Do I what?” Adam inquired as he poured some pretzels in the other bowl.
“Do you need someone to kiss at midnight?” Tommy questioned.
“Do you want to kiss me at midnight, Tommy?” Adam asked as he stopped what he was doing and stood right in front of Tommy.
“Yeah.” Tommy replied as he reached out and lightly touched Adam’s face.
“Why?” Adam inquired as he moved slightly closer to Tommy.
“I heard once that what you’re doing at midnight on New Year’s is a good indication of the way you are going to spend your year and I…” Tommy started to explain.
As Tommy had been talking, Adam had been leaning in. Their lips were almost touching.
“Adam, come on, the countdown is about to start!” Danielle exclaimed as she burst into the kitchen.
Danielle grabbed Adam’s hand and dragged him away. She was already drunk enough that she didn’t even realize what she had interrupted. Adam looked back at Tommy sadly as Danielle pulled him along. When Adam was gone, Tommy sighed and jumped down from the counter. He left the kitchen just as the countdown to midnight started. He had to find Adam, but everyone was crowded together. He started to push his way through everyone. As the countdown neared one, he didn’t think that he’d find Adam in time.
“One! Happy New Year!” The guests all shouted.
Before Tommy had time to think, he felt lips on his. His eyes closed automatically. A hand tangled in his hair and another hand gently caressed his neck. Tommy sighed and opened his mouth to the kiss. It was Adam. He knew how Adam’s lips felt on his. He knew how Adam’s kisses made him feel after months of kissing him onstage practically every night.
When they broke the kiss, everyone was still cheering and making noise. However, they looked into each other’s eyes and felt like they were the only two people in the room. Adam still had his hands on Tommy.
“Is this the way you want to spend your year, Tommy Joe?” Adam asked near Tommy’s ear so he could hear him.
“Absolutely.” Tommy declared before capturing Adam’s lips for another kiss.
“Me too.” Adam breathed when they broke their second kiss.
Adam gently kissed Tommy’s forehead. He pulled him against his body and into a hug. He loved how Tommy just fit with him.
For the rest of the party, Adam and Tommy stayed close beside one another. If anyone noticed that things had changed between the two men, no one said anything.
As people began leaving, Adam pulled Tommy in for another kiss. He had always loved kissing Tommy, but it was even better now. He could do it whenever he wanted. He was definitely looking forward to the New Year and spending it with Tommy.
