I don't think there's any question that part of Papi's problem is unhappiness. (I think it's a perfect storm of unhappiness, recovery from injury, and learning to hit with essentially a new body--he looks very fit, but it's hard to think that the time spent to become generally fit doesn't take away from weight work.) I think back to the trouble he had adapting to Mags after they let Papa Jack go. He was struggling, and the press got wind that he had actually called Papa Jack. Ortiz sheepishly admitted that Papa Jack told him the same things Magadan had been telling him. But he was willing to hear Papa Jack in a way he wasn't ready to listen to Mags.

I think a ton of baseball is confidence, and he's not confident right now. I think Manny leaving broke his heart, and Manny getting busted can't make him feel any better. I'm not sure it's literally that he has any doubts about Bay or Youk--I just think he's heartsick, and physically in shape but out of rhythm. And that's a bad combination.

I think it's really comfort level with Bay and Youk, I think I may have been trying to get at. He's not used to having them as that "safety net" as I like to put it so he puts extra pressure on himself to be The Guy because he isn't quite sure if Youk and Bay can be that insurance policy. Though they have done pretty well thus far this season.

He's sucking and it's killing him and that breaks my heart. It's kind of ironic in a sense because five years ago he was the guy who made us believe in the impossible and that good things do come with enough faith, hard work, and a dash of good luck. Fanwise, it feels like we need to repay him for that by showing him that we believe in him. I know I do at least.

I wouldn't say the ejection was dumb, honestly. One pitch behind Kinsler's head, the next straight at his ribs. If it was unintentional ... he really didn't sell it well. Apparently they have bad blood between them, and yeah. The announcers were pretty sure it was intentional .. and it looked that way.
