Because I am a giant music geek, I decided to do an entry on this. Rolling Stone recently did a list of the 100 Greatest Singers of All Time I thought I'd put down the list here, linkage to some YouTubery of a song of theirs, and all. Some of these picks I agree with, some I don't. The latter I think it's partially out of personal taste and ( Read more... )

:), listings, music, linkage, :d, boredom, youtubery, w00ten, tra la laaa, lollerskates, good times had by all, random

Haha. I'm not sure where I'd exactly rank him, however. :P

Oh yeah totally agree here. I love the choices, I think number 1 is uncontested but I think it should be re-arranged...I think I may try that once I finish this five page overview thing. I'd also replace a few as well. Like I'd put in Paul Simon and Bob Seger in place of Axl Rose and maybe Kurt Cobain.

What fun this is going to be to listen to when I have a couple of hours! I'm especially delighted to see that Sam Cooke is so high on the list.

Yeah me too. I love the people on the list but the rankings need a little help(though I do like seeing Sam Cooke's name in the top 5)

The public at large needs to get reacquainted with George Jones. I had forgotten how much I love his voice until I watched that clip. Oft imitated but never duplicated!

Don Henley's voice is fucking awesome. It's like the almost perfect blend of country and R&B. And the smokiness to the voice is awesome. Also it helps because I can rock the fuck out to "Dirty Laundry"

I really wanna know the criteria too. I'm doing mine more on vocal talents in their genre. I like Dylan but he should be in the bottom 50.

I was very thrilled though to see Steve Winwood so high. I've been on a wicked Steve Winwood kick lately anyway (the cover of "Georgia on my Mind" i linked to totally blew my mind).

I thought the George Jones selection was inspired, ditto with Winwood, Levon Helm, and Eric Burdon.

rickenbacker and I had a good laugh over John Lennon at number 5. I may, grudgingly, grant that he was a good songwriter and composer. But in the top 5 of singers all time? What the fuck ever.

Yeah I didn't like that pick. I think George Harrison was a better singer anyway and he's not even on there. Sometimes they cloud their judgement on singers with songwriting and impact and shit. It kinda is annoying.
