it resembles sailor jerry designs from wwii, who lived in hawaii after pearl harbour and ran a tatt shop for marines and navy and makes sailor jerry rum.

I dit know that the rum was named after a real person. I thought it was just a name play for a smaller person of Captain Morgan rum

no, there really was a sailor jerry and the navy crew used to hang out at his place in hawaii on shore leave. and yes, the rum is named after him, i think he even brewed and bottled it.
