The problem with finding new, good books is that I'm so eager to find out what happens that I rush through them like crazy resulting in a very short period of pure pleasure.  The books I linger over the most are the books I'm least interested in.  That's messed up.  All three books took me three days, with two of those days being work days.

Sometimes obsession comes with a price.  In my case, a very physiological price: a neckache that's been lingering for more than a month now.  Ow.  May this be a lesson to never get so involved in reading something that you're spending 5+ hours each weekday and 12+ hours each weekend day in the exact same position every day for a month and a half.  ( Read more... )

Jumping quickly between Sanderson's Mistborn, Wells's Mr Monster, and Bujold's Cryoburn can be a bit disorienting.  Mistborn is an apocolyptic high fantasy crossed with big heist book.  Mr Monster is more a contemporary psychological thriller.  Cryoburn is a far future sleuth story mixed with social comedy.  Tone, setting, themes, all are very ( Read more... )
