Sandy: Storm-surge readiness

Oct 27, 2012 14:15

If you live near the coast, especially in NY or NJ, give a little thought to the concept of storm surge.

The butt you save might be your own )

yes this sounds preachy - and that's ok, hurricane sandy, cyclones, storm surge, be prepared

I don't have to evacuate, thankfully. But if I were told to, I would. I live near a bay and not a sound or the ocean, so that's good. The bay can, and does flood during storms but it usually never reaches my house. Hopefully it's not so bad.

It's the folks at the top of a skinny bay or harbor who are likely to have serious problems with this one.

NYC subway may be in trouble, too. I would say "it's toast!" but that's a bit premature. And, besides, toast is dry. Maybe it'd be porridge?

Oh, the LIRR could very well be toast. So the subways, buses, and trains will be shut down starting at 7 pm :)

Wow. Things will be quiet.

I want one of those pocket underwater video cameras that also does decent stills. Perfect if I ever get to go snorkeling. Perfect for storms and beaches, too!
