I think you should go for it. If it won't be too long, maybe now really is the time for another go with him. I'm not too knowledgeable about the whole situation, but anything involving family is worth a second, third, and seventh try.

It took my mother and I a few tries to actually get to the pint where I'd willingly talk to her, and it takes an even longer time to heal. But hey, go for it. Any risk is worth taking, right?
