Listening to some songs by Paramore, I was thinking, "What if the lead singer was male? Would the songs give off different vibes or emotion?" Or about Amber Pacific, "Would the music in their particular style be more/less enjoying if the lead singer were female?" There could be a lot of personal opinions on this matter, so I present you with some

2. I think that they both get equal treatement, but you don't see singers that are female as often as you males, by a long shot, in most of the popular bands.
3. I don't think my mod has anything to do with how I feel bout which gender I want to listen to.
And finally, the gender of the singer often has to do with what sound the group is looking for. Female singers don't have the same feel as male ones and visa-versa.

Exactly--I agree.

female voices usually suck tons because they're so terribly high pitched && when they go sharp//flat it sounds even worse.
I don't know about respect but... If women were the at the forefront of some of these big bands... that would rock tons.
mood... no. I usually want to hear a certain song or genre.

2. I think women have a harder time being seen as serious musicians and not just eye-candy/puppets for the record company. I think there are some singer-songwriters who are changing that, like KT Tunstall.
3. No, because there's variety within both sexes - women's voices range from Joan Baez to Brody Dalle, men's from Sufjan Stevens to Serj Tankian.

2. Exactly. Take Tila Tequila for example. I mean, I'm sure there are people that love her music, but she's obviously more well-known for her body. (It's not like she minds, either, heh.)
3. Sadly, I have never heard of the last three artists you mentioned.

2. I agree that sometimes women are seen as the pretty front, but then so are men. I think men are generally expected to be hardxcore and VERY mascualine and verile and rock, whereas the women are thought to be pop artists. Odd that pop culture kind of enforces the sterotypes.
3. Nah, like I said, its all in the style of the music.

02. well, at first i don't think any one is really respected. but males will tend to gain respect faster than a woman would, mainly because people are just kind of sexist that way. i mean, you and i could both audition for a band and you are more likely to get the job. and even if we both got into a band, you are more likely to get paid more, to get famous, even if we are both at the same level of singing, in the same genre, for the same number of years. face it, our world is disgustingly sexist. no offense to you, it's just, if we're doing the same thing we should be getting paid and getting treated the same way. for example, i'm the lead singer of my band and i know no one's going to want to listen to me, whether it's because of some stupid reason ((like ( ... )

Even hitting notes sung by Dashboard Confessional is difficult! In "Morning Calls" or some song like that, he hits a high C! (A C above middle C.) That's almost high even for a girl. He's insanely crazy :P.
I completely get what you're saying. Sadly, males seem to have the advantage in this world. I mean, just look at how little rights women had back in the... forties? Fifties? It's kind of messed up, but it's getting a LOT better.
Makes sense.
Nice reply! I enjoyed reading it =).
