Prologue:

He stood there by the shoji window, not stepping foot on the balcony as he watched the heavy downpour of the cold rain outside. The wind blew frigidly inside their huge traditional Japanese house and he was sure his wife, who was sewing that time inside their room, had felt it too. He shivered as the cold hit his exposed shoulder. He kept his stare at the small pond outside wondering if the kois living in there are feeling the same cold he was feeling as well. He lifted a hand and brushed it on his gold locks, a faint smile painted across his calm façade. He suddenly longed for his wife’s warmth. He let out a soft sigh, feeling his wife’s small stares piercing his back however; he kept himself occupied with the thoughts that have been plaguing his mind for a while now.

Finally, his wife stopped what she was doing and stared at him quietly. She smiled a little as she set the fabric and the needle aside before standing up from the futon she had been sitting on and walking behind him. She gently wrapped her arms around his thin waist as she leaned her head on his exposed shoulder. The smooth texture of the fabric of her husband’s black and gold kimono felt so good on her skin. She hummed softly and closed her eyes as she kept him in her arms.

“Feeling cold?” she asked in a soft coo.

He smiled and nodded just barely as he placed his cold hands over her warm ones. The warmth of her small body felt so good on his, he wished she could just stay like that forever. His grip on her hands tightening a little as he closed his eyes and just feeling her warm breath on the freezing skin on his neck. He hummed as well, chuckling a little.

“Is it too wistful?” he asked, tilting his head just a little to see her pretty face. He couldn’t help but to place a gentle kiss on her forehead as he pulled her in front of him before tugging him in his arms. He hummed contently as he buried his face on her neck and almost clinging to her petite frame.

She gasped lightly at the sudden actions of her husband but smiled sweetly as she wrapped her arms around him protectively and carefully soothing his back with her gentle hands. She shook her head and closed her eyes, making a small noise of disagreement.

“No.” she hummed, “It’s not, though I can tell something is bothering you.” She continued and he pulled away from her, casting his gaze down on the tatami floor. She frowned and leaned her back on the window’s frame, her own kimono fluttering along with the wind as well as her long black hair. She tucked one side of her hair behind her ear as she tilted her head to the side to watch the downpour with a faint smile painted across her pretty face, waiting for her husband to talk and open up to her.

He looked up and watched her before turning his gaze outside as well. He let out a soft sigh as he leaned his side on the other window’s frame. He held a hand up his head and leaned it on the wooden frame of the window he was leaning on to.

“Don’t you ever wonder why we became like this?” he asked softly as he glanced up at her with a small sad smile on his face.

She looked over him, a hand resting by her ear as the wind blew frigidly on them again. She smiled a little and looked back outside.

“Of course I do.” She mouthed carefully, “but it doesn’t matter that much to me anyway, so I don’t ask.” She continued in a soft hum.

He smiled gently at her as he took her hand into his. “Would you like to know then?” he asked.

She looked up at him and smiled as he took her hand, “If you want to tell me about it then go on~” she hummed in reply.

He nodded gently and looked up at the heavy dark clouds. “It all started hundreds of years ago in France. A noble family who had been too greedy and egotistical because of their riches was cursed. Before though, when they were just starting to become rich, they were very kind and helpful towards other people but when they became too rich, they started to change. They barely go out of their house in the fear that they’d be harmed by the poor people in the streets of France, thus their skins became pale. Nevertheless, they still think they're the most gorgeous humans living in the whole world and the look down on people who are not rich like them. They’d been so self-centered and became so obsessed with the authority and power they have over the people in France because they are rich to the point they’d abused it. One day, an old woman came to their mansion to ask for help however, they just mocked her and pushed her away like she was some kind of a stray animal, they treated her badly and what they didn’t know was that she’s an enchantress and so she cursed them.” He chuckled.

“She cursed them as vampires?” she wondered.

He nodded and smiled, “She cursed us as vampires. I think that’s because our ancestors were so pale.” He laughed.

“It still doesn’t make sense though, why a vampire?” she asked confusedly as she swing their hands lightly along the wind.

“I think it’s because of our ancestor’s greediness and egotistical demeanor. She made us lust for blood and to live alone by it for eternity. Without it we’ll die no matter how much healthy food we take in, we’ll eventually wither like a beautiful flower dying without water and moisture. She made us depend on human blood alone to make us suffer. No water or any beverage can satisfy our thirst and no food can satisfy our hunger but blood alone. She made us live for eternity in despair, regret and pain. Despite the awful curse, we attained some kind of a gift just like for example our special abilities and our looks however, it’s still a curse no matter how you look at it. People hated us because we live off of them. To humans, we are parasites thus why we became discrete in order not to be killed because even if we may be monsters, we still have lives and despite the awful truth, we still want to live normally like you humans do and luckily we were able to survive. That’s why…I am able to meet you.” He smiled and held on her hand tightly.

She smiled back at him and nodded, walking closer to him and wrapping her other hand around his neck and hugging him. “Thank you for telling me, Takanori-kun.” She hummed.

He smiled and kissed her gently on the lips. “Thank you for listening to me.” He hummed as he hugged her protectively in his arms.

“I love you, Takanori. I'll be with you. Forever. I'm here and I won't leave you, I promise. You won’t be alone anymore so don’t be look so sad. It makes me sad when I see you sad, it pains me.I don’t like seeing you frown so please smile for me, ne?” she cooed as she buried her face on his tender chest, listening carefully to his faint heartbeat.

“I know. I know. I love you too, Tsukino.” He smiled and kissed the top of her head.
