Egypt is full of columns, most of them ancient. I chose these because they're so well preserved and are a bit different, with the stylized lotus flowers at the top.

Photoshop Elements picked tonight to stop working, so I had to uninstall and reinstall, and even then it didn't work, until suddenly it did. I just...don't get technology. Anyway, I turned into a big mass of fail last year after starting off well, so let's see if I can do better this year.

When I came back from the mountains on Labor Day weekend, I discovered that the city was putting in new storm drains. And as soon as I saw that the prompt was "square(s)," I knew I'd found my shot. Here's what I saw first, a pile of squares within squares, waiting to be installed.

More catching up and more animals (of course). We have a wonderful exhibit of African wild dogs at the Bronx Zoo. Some of the smartest and most effective hunters - and one of the most altrusistic species - these gorgeous animals are also known as Cape hunting dogs and - wait for it - painted dogs ( Read more... )

This is one of my favorite amphibian shots, a tomato frog that I photographed on my 2007 trip to Madagascar. We saw this guy on a night walk, and this is his real color. The flash distorted it, so I had someone hold a flashlight on him so I could take the picture without flash.
