Prime-time TV fails Sexuality 101, news at 11

Despite the fact that House is looking like it might be the new Xena (which probably deserves an entry of its own), I am mightily displeased with some of the things that network TV had to say about sex this last week.

Cut for discussion of naughty bits and mild spoilers for Bones 3.03 )

sexuality, bones, sexuality on tv, private practice

Not defending the position, but my impression of Brennan is that she's Weird - could you chalk this one up to her lack of social skills? (One of my pet peeves about the show... *shakes head*)

That's not really how seemed to me, though. A lot of Brennan's "weirdness" comes from her being so objective it approaches disassociation. She can talk about interactions between people as if she's observing another species, but she generally knows what she's talking about, even if it comes across as only being "textbook knowledge". I felt this particular situation showed what would be an amazing amount of ignorance considering some of the other observations she's been able to make about human sexuality from an anthropological background and perspective.

I tend to have mixed feelings about her lack of social skills and how they're presented on the show. On one hand I have a certain amount of identification with that kind of person, on the other hand I think it's pushed far past what would be reasonable for her character.
